What is it?

so more than likely its a 1982 model year boat built in late 1981 seeing that the last diget is a 1
This last character can't be a NUMBER it has to be a LETTER. For example I have a 76 Trimate II here that ends in M76F and the Sportfire that I have ends in M81C, I'm still looking for a CG reg for how the serial numbers were done back then todays numbers are different, with the model year being the last 2 characters.

Well, perhaps it's an '82 Convincor Outboard and the splashwell on the production models ended up being slightly different. I believe the Enforcers weren't built until a few years later.

This could very well be a pretty rare boat.
I'm going to go with the Enforcer on this, if you look at the noses of the 2 and where the tip of the bottom meets up with the tip of the boat.

Just got an e-mail from the seller, HE DOES NOT HAVE TITLE FOR THE BOAT OR THE ENGINE
LAST REGISTERED IN DELAWARE IN 92?
Whoever bids on it may end up with a hull that can never get registered

Could it be an I and not a 1?

If it was an I, then it probably would be correct.

So it would be built in September of 82 and Y would be a manufacturer's designated letter.

whats the scoop with the titles anyway? sounds like a huge pain if you don't have one. in Canada we have a vessel permit which most people never switch over until they try to trade the boat into a dealership. most private sales never see the vessel permit.

Title Laws

whats the scoop with the titles anyway? sounds like a huge pain if you don't have one. in Canada we have a vessel permit which most people never switch over until they try to trade the boat into a dealership. most private sales never see the vessel permit.

Each state varies some especially on boats and motorcycles but
the title establishes ownership rights and sales tax collection at time of sale.
In Texas, the parks and wildlife dept handles the boat and motor, the dmv handles the trailer. Title must be signed by owner and accompany a sales tax and transfer form also signed by the owner. You cannot get hull #'s without both. If title is not in your name, legally you do not own it and cannot sell it. they are passing laws to prohibit getting title to boats like that one by only mailing replacement title to original address of record.

Personally I think most of it is to insure they get thier sales tax money on every sale.
almost impossible to get mechanics title or storage title here anymore

Here is an update on this boat.

The cover is for sale on eBay.

It seems that a guy that he had working on it was removing the gas tank and there was some gas in the bilge so he tried to drill a hole to let it drain out. And BOOM no more Checkmate, he jumped out and suffered some burns.

What a sad ending for a Checkmate, and an almost sad ending for a person. Everybody please send him some good wishes.

I did invite him to join, so maybe we will here from him on this story.

I must have missed this in December.....If this was a factory boat, would they have left all of that raw wood in the transom area? That looks a little wierd to me. I wish he had shown the interior and cabin layout also. Would have been a cool boat.

I'm glad the mad driller lived. I know of a guy who was killed that way.
