I purchase what i think is a 1987 checkmate starflight 21'. I have seen this hull with 300 HP outboard, the guy that sold me the boat told me the max HP i can use on my hull is a 250 HP is this true? I am planning on painting my hull and doing the interior,I will take some pics while doing the resto and will try to post the entire project.

Unlimited, but these hulls are not typically super fast since they are not padded. That said they are one of the nicest looking boats Checkmate ever made. I would put as much HP on it as the budget and transom allows.

My 85 Flite has the 300 hp tag in it. I understand that the rating was reduced some time after that to 250 and back up to 300 later. Maybe others that have or had models from 86 and up can chime in.

That's always the answer. To everything.

btw- I've seen the modified knees on Jim's Starflite. Could handle a 600 if they made such a thing..
Could probably hang a farting elephant off the back of that thing.

The factory used to have some old 300 hp plates lying around and used ship them out when asked, but that was quit a few yrs ago now. My 92 came with a 245 hp plate.
