what outboard for my predictor

83PREDICTOR

Well-known member
When I pay off my truck this year I want to buy a new motor for my predictor.

I have been looking at the merc.verado 135 I know it heavy but I've heard good things also

or the 115 e-tec my dad loves his

Any other suggestions welcome
I would rather not get into the v6's

I'm looking to power my Predictor also. I have been looking at the older v6's one because I like the style and sound and also because for the size and power they really don't weigh any more than the smaller motors, atleast from the 80's. If you're looking to go that new then I'd say go for the Verado. A 135 on this boat would produce some nice speed.

If it was me, I'd buy an Optimax in the highest HP you can afford or insure. A 2 stroke would be the only way to go due to weight. The e-tec may be great too, but I'm personally a little gunshy of a 'rude. I wish I could have bought an XR6 150 a couple of years ago (saw them around here for $7500 new), but I think they're all gone now.:brickwall:

why do you want to stay away from older v-6s? Reliability should be fine, and they have excellent power to weight ratio. A 2.4 200 like illmatics would be sweet. I think you'd be disappointed with the verado in a performance application. Also considering the price difference and putting a brand new motor on an old boat... not worth it in my opinion. I would go with a 2.0 or 2.4... or even a 2.5 200

I want to get a brand new outboard because I have never had one before.
I want to get a four banger because I want keep the boat for a long time maybe forever without causing unneccesary damage.
I am going to go with a 2 stroker now

understandable... but the unnecessary damage you speak of... I dont think an older v-6 weighs that much more... probably less than a verado or opti? Im not sure on exact figures. I thought a v-6 merc was right around 400 (or less)... the verado is probably more than the opti and the etec is probably close. If you have to have new go with the opti or etec...
