Hi, I got a V-mate ll i just bought and it had a 19p alum. on it. WOT I would turn 5500. Over the weekend i hit a log and bent a blade alittle bit, I was looking to buy a new prop definetly a SS. I thought a mercury lazer ll 21p looked good. I also saw the Michigan wheel ballistic 21p looked sick, but befor I spend the money I wanna make sure I get the right set up. Tell me what you think.
 
What motor is on it? Was that the one with a 200? Sounds like you need to stick with the 19p if it's only turning 5500 rpms. 21p would bring that down a few hundred rpms.
 
Don't go with the ballistic, I had one and the blades are real thin and seem to flex more than other SS props i've ran. It also had a blow out problem on my boat.
 
How do you use you boat, are you by yourself 90% of the time? Do you have lots of people in it? What is important to you as far as performance goes.
With the inline size gearcase you are a little more limited on prop selection.


The 19" Laser II or the Trophy Plus could be a good selection for you. If you are buying new shop around... Lot's of dealers sell these new for less than $400. If you have a dealer who will let you try some and then select what you need buy from him and even consider paying full retail as he ahs taken the guessing out of prop selection.

I've made a few bad choices in my day and the ability to try before you buy can save bg $$$. Reward to opportunity.

Actually, a Ballistic is probably a good choice for the 115 hp Merc. They are no good at high engine height applications but on a transom mounted situation they work really well. They spool up quickly and give good hole shot and good top end. Your setup will have a hard time turning a Laser or Trophy unless you are up on a jack plate. They are made for surfacing applications. I had a 115 inline six mounted on the transom and it couldn't spin a Laser worth beans. A 19" Ballistic was what I settled on. In fact I still use a Ballistic (21") on my 130 Yamaha (on the Diplomat in the avatar) and really like it. I use this boat for skiing, tubing, cruising and can still run just shy of 60 MPH with it. But... it needs to be run buried(5" below the pad).
 
Hey, that's cool though that you have the 115. Yours is actually more HP than my 75 model, but it's the same boat. How fast are you running with the existing 19p @ 5500? Is it around 50mph? So far my max has been 48ish, but I'm still working on some things. I have a jackplate and hope to see 50 or a little more by the time I'm done. That's enough to be fun in one of these. I was jumping big rollers at 45-50 a few weeks ago, and it was loads of fun.
 
Well mainly I cruise the CT river with my girlfriend. Once in a great while we'll throw a tube out but i'm more worried about my brothers 16' baja with a 115 merc. Hes running a 21p SS and I raced him a few times and beat him every time with me Alum. 19p. I get him outta the hole and then he just cant keep up. The only difference is im running a dual fin on my lower unit I think that helps me up on plan faster. I cant belive it tho im 17'4'' and hes 16' I figured the smaller boat would be faster but no. So basicly I want the best speed prop that will keep me in front of him (the baja). Ben its cool we have the same boat, I acully just got mine about 2 weeks ago and I love it. I got big plans for it tho, i cant get it outta my head the difference in chuckers boat! I wish mine looked like that. But with the 19p at a soild 5500 my in dash spedo reads 50. I definetly have to GPS her tho.
 
Hmm i wouldnt mess with proping much until i took the ebrake off(the dolpfin) Im not sure how they work on this hull but ive ahd alot of luck with the lightspeed/laser II, just not quite enuff bow lift for my starflite though so ill be going to a tempest myself.:)
 
I have a 19p Laser II on my V-Mate. I run 55mph at 5600 rpm, the boat gets up on plane super fast (less than 3 seconds). I had a 19p Michigan Wheel Vortex aluminum prop, the Laser II has worked out to be much better for my application. One of these days I'd like to try a 21p Laser, which I'm sure will slow the hole shot down a bit, but top end should improve.
 
So a 19p lazer ll with out the dual fin, would be my best application? I dunno chucker 5600 rpm is a lot, do you think thats safe running? Plus you got a 150 im only running a 115
 
I think the 19p michigan wheel balistic looks pretty sick, but not to many people have good reviews about it.

My 150 is a lot older and I'm sure more "tired" than your 115, and if I'm not mistaken, engines were rated different during the time period that mine was made. 5600 probably is a bit high, but it's actually rare that I run WOT. I still think a 21p Laser would be ideal for me.
 
Prop

I have a Cabellas 13 1/4, 19 pitch ss high performance prop. I'll let it go for
$200. Only about 40 hours use on it. We ran it on a 140 Tower of Power
79 Checkmate Enchanter with a Stingray... 49.7 GPS.(boat loaded heavy)

Asolek, your inline should probably be turning 5500 at least. They don't like to be lugged. Yours may be less sensitive to it being a newer model, but I think that's still the way to go. Keep the rpms up.

If you need any motor advice, go to the inline newsgroup. They're the best source for inline 6 info. There are some former racers and some of the best mechanics around the country on there.

Thanks for all the advice. My motor runs amazing! Its the best running outboard ive ever owed. I can run the boat at 1500 all day just putting and it wont load up or foul plugs or anything. It does turn a soild 5500.
