Whats this Wire?

New member
I have two wires that are black right behind the hydraulic pump. They are not connected to anything and they look like bullet connectors. It looks like they go into the outdrive then back out and one goes toa ground and the other to the micro switch on the throttle.

What are they for and what do they connect to?

I have a picture but i am to new to the forum to post them.

Thanks!

Yes i do have a trim gauge. How can i check to see if its working? I just dont see the other ends that they would plug into. I will look harder today for the other ends.

If they come off the trim pump, these are the wires for your trim limit, the safety device that keeps you from running the drive height too high (which can cause u-joint damage and bell housing damage.)

The other possibility is your trim guage.

On either side of the drive, attached to your gimbal ring you will see two sending units, one says trim limit, the other says trim sender. One of the incorrect repairs to these units when they fail is to bypass them in the engine compartment.

the easy teltale sign of this is you can use the trim button to put the outdrive in trailer mode.

When i was looking around i found two wires that looked to have the female end for these connectors. It had a jumper plug connecting the two. And yes, i can use the trim button to get a full range of motion on the outdrive. I have some pics if someone can post them for me.

Most likely your sending units on the outdrive are bad, they were bypassed so that someone could still use the boat And the reason for the jumper wire.
