Me being a mopar nut I would have to go with the chrysler. A buddy has one that he bought in early 80's, never been apart and is still running strong.

Good to know about your buddie's engine

Do you think this Chrysler 85HP engine is a 2 cylinder, 3 cylinder, or 4 cylinder?

What were the engines that automatically mixed the gas and oil? I guess you added the oil to the engine in a seperate compartment and it would automatically mix it?

Die-hard MOPAR guy here...i'd go with the Chrysler!! Now if only i could figure out a way to "Wedge" a big block 440 Mopar into my Enchanter......

Went down to the damn boat yard today when they were open (only open from noon -1 , Tuesdays and Thursdays)....

I told the guy I wanted the Chrysler cause the Evinrude was sold........ He has a stack of registrations for all the boats in the yard.....

Oh gee golly gosh, thats the ONLY boat he doesn't have a registration for! ERRRRRRR

Now I gotta wait to see what he can come up with. Damn it all!

Just thinking ahead, if I dont get any spark from the plugs, what could be wrong with the engine? I'm just planning for the worst..... Then again, I'm sure no compression would even be worse......... just thinking...

Dr. Phil, I had the same Evinrude that you have a picture of, it was a 1977 model. That model was bullet proof. The evinrude run very well with the 16' boat that I had at the time. It could pull me up on one ski with a deep water start very easy. The Chrysler you listed was not in the same performance range or cost range as the evinrude you list. I pulled several of the Chrysler into the dock after being broke down. I probably averaged 2-3 year during the early 80's. OldSchool

If your choice is between them, get the Evinrude. Not that the Chrysler is a bad motor, but the Rude will be easy to get parts for when it does break down. (All motors regardless of brand will break if run long enough.) There are thousands of them Rudes out there and you can still find any part for them. Good luck!

Jim
