pulled the gas tank out of the boat today to change the size of the pickup to a 12an. what a pain in the a-- that was. anyone want to guess how fast a 280zt would be with a 850hp single.

Putting "hook"in the hull will not give you bow lift..hook will act live a trim tab in the down position forcing the bow down, rocker may give you bow lift but adds to ill handling at high speeds. Maintain a straight running surface and use the correct motor height, trim and prop to get your bow lift and best speeds.

Mike, I don't know if you will want any extra bow lift. It will depend on your final setup. My 280 has the XR drive with the X dimension raised 3/4". Stock lower with a nosecone turning a 32P Bravo 1. With no tab the bow gets too light going past 80 mph and chining begins. Setting the tabs just below the plane of the bottom prevents this to full speed. I agree with Chris' speed estimate.

what rpm are you able to turn the 32p and is it a 4 or 3 blade. on my 28 with the stock 502 procharger and 5psi boost I was able to turn a 28 4 blade 5200. the new 540 should dyno somewhere from 850-880 with 10psi guessing from a similar motor that i have dynoed. ive played alot with cars in the past but boats in this class are a new world for me. trying to get as much feedback as possible from people running similar hulls. from the pics your boat is beautiful.

The Bravo 1 is a four blade 32p. I have spun it to 5200. I think the previous owner had spun it to 5500. My 540 has the StageIV Procharger running 7psi. 900+hp. This hull seems real efficient, just hope it will handle the 2 to 3 footers like the old 251 did.

Well I may not have the fastest Checkmate, but I bet I have the fastest red and white, small block powered, naturally aspirated, alpha driven, original EFI equipped, 1987 Ambassadore registered in Austin Texas... 71.8 GPS

I've mentioned this before, a guy in omaha with a 19' checkmate, bbc, blower, nitrous, and a blackhawk ran 116 on the gps.

Mine is equipped with the original 320 HP Mercruiser 5.7 EFI. This was a motor that Mercruiser only produced for 2 years (1987 and 1988) before it was discontinued. It uses an intake that looks similar to the one that was later released on GM's LT1 motors, almost looks like a tunnel ram with a large plenum attached to the top. The motor has since been upgraded to .030 over with some Dart iron heads, Crane hyd roller, roller rockers, etc and a reprogrammed ECU that made 424 HP and 445 TQ at the flywheel.

MY PERSUADER 219 HAS THE 454MAG 365HP STOCK LAST YEAR. NEVER HAD IT ON GPS BUT IT WAS SHOWING 72MPH. I BLEW IT UP AND JUST GOT IT BACK, THEY BORED IT .030 OVER TO 468 NEW CAM (LITTLE BIGGER) . THE MECHANICS SAID IT PROBABLY WOULNT ADD MUCH TO THE HORSE POWER,BUT MAYBE A LITTLE MORE THROTLE. SO I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT IT WILL DO AFTER THE BREAK IN PERIOD.

I might have the fastest senator at lake shelbiville illinois.Last year 66 on gps at kentucky lake with the old gen 4 330hp.Now this year 468 comp cam .050@in218 ex224,lighting headers ,9.5 to 1 compresion, performor rpm carb&intake ,with a hatch scoop for fresh air.not sure what to expect.what do u think shes going to put out speed/hp

Which lower unit and what gears do you have? I think I remember you said you had an Alpha in a previous thread, but is it the regular Alpha or the SS (not sure howm much of a difference that would make, other than the SS is shorter)? Also, what heads do you have??? Some of the largest HP gains can come from a good set of heads, if you still have the stock heads and no head work, everything you have done may only be worth 50 HP or so. That said, I believe your hull is the same as mine (hopefully in better shape though, after I bought mine and put it on a trailer I was able to find some damage to the running surfaces that I could not see while it was on the lift in the slip) plus they claim the open bows cost you several mph, so if you are making the same HP as I am, I would think 75-78 fairly easily. I think the speed computers say I should be running just over 80, but my dyno numbers are over 10 years old and my bottom needs work, plus they do not offer a open/closed bow option. I should check with Checkmate to see if they still offer a bow cover for this model, supposedly those alone are worth 2-3 MPH.

i just have a normal alpha 1.30 ratio. It sould say 1.32 but its sticker says 1.30. the heads were torn down and rebuilt.when the motor was done
