Why no twin tabs?

Why have I not seen many checkmates with tabs. I would think this would help to keep the bow down to plane. Also should help the pirpoising.

Is anyone running them?

I would to know.

DUDE RELAXE,

Its a 1300# speed boat, its going to jump, skip and porpus. Thats why I love mine! Nothing like 245 hp pushing along a starflite in a 1-2 ftrs.

Trim Tabs

I have them on my 2100BR. The best thing that I have done to my boat! No speed loss, Stops all porpoising, even at slow speeds, and great for pulling skiers.

You can even use them to level the boat if you have a 400 lb porkasaurus on the other side.

Used Bennett tabs and they work great. No downside to them. Boat fires out of the hole, with the tabs down, even at 6750 elevation.

for I/O's there a plus when going less the 40 or so, at least for me
for outboards I doubt they're needed when most of you run jack plates and large offsets

I'm confused(as usual). Is a twin tab a trim tab? If so, these beautifully handcrafted Checkmates handle so well and perform so comendably that the tabs are not necessary. Don't need anything hangin out to slow us down either. Haven't I seen tabs on some other makes of boats that I won't mention? Also, is a porkasaurus and a BIG girl the same thing?

The trim tabs on my boat do not slow it down at all. With them all the way up they are not in the water when on plane. My boat porpoises pretty bad with 4 people in it around 25-30 mph. The tabs stopped all of it. Just touch the button and lower them a little and all of the porpoising goes away.

I have a 6" power jackplate and it still porpoises with the motor up or down. I have tried 3 blade, 4 blade and 5 blade props with the same results.

A porkasaurus is a polite way of saying fat chick, which is not politically correct to say.

Ok trim tabs.

I missed spelling and I get beat up pretty bad. I took the boat out today again. Great day. Zero waves. The boat is jumping up on plane pretty well but jumps around like a crack head. There is noway that everyone else is feeling this and saying it's ok.

If "trim" tabs solves this sign me up.

i dont have em yet,but all for em for the low plane speed aspect. wakeboarding, kids tubing & skiing . id like to see pix of your set up skip .

I Trim the motor all the way

To plane quickly i tuck the motor in all the way. It planes pretty quick now that I changed the spark plugs. My problem is still the mid range speed where is porpoises. (Bounces) If I trim the motor up and try to maintain that low speed it gets worse. Only when I pass that 50 mph range those the boat handle better. The problem is that I dont want to go that fast with my 9 year old in the boat. (She gets scared) So i'm stuck in limbo. I think trim tabs would probably do it but If I go that way i'll wait until i paint the boat next off season so I can remove the ladder. The ladder is in the way now for any trim tabs to work. I'll probably change the jackplate I have too from a 6.5 to a 10".

sounds like you might be trimming to much. try tucking the motor all the way down and keeping it there at low speeds. forces the nose down and should keep the porposing under control. once you start to pick up a speed, slowly trim up, you'll feel the wheel losen up, you'll find the sweet spot, just need a bit of seat time.

No trim tabs on my Starflite. With either a 22P or 24P 3 blade Raker only minor porpous at 3500 rpm. Adjust the trim a little bit and it smoothes out.
No jackplate, motor mounted to the transom with prop shaft at approx 4-1/2" below the "V". (Wife is like your daughter)

Thanks,

Thanks, I'll try it on sunday. My wife is like my daughter too. I'm trying to control the ride so much that i keep the boat at around the 3500 to 4000 mark. If not less. At high RPM and speed the boat rides smooth if no waves. But if I hit a ripple im air borne. Fun for me but the family starts screaming. Simce this is my first speed boat, i'm adjusting my technique alot. Way different than driving an open fisherman!!!!
