Will my V-Mate I handle it?

I have got my hands on a 2005 200HP Evinrude ETEC. And i have a 1981 V-Mate I with a completely solid transom. Would a 200 ETEC just be to much for it? Speed is one thing but i also dont want to end up on the bottom of the lake. I dont think it would be a good idea and probably just going to stick with my old crossflow, but just putting it out there to see what you guys think.
 
400lbs 60* V6, Just thought someone else here might have tryed something like that. I dont really plan on keeping the boat so i dont want to risk breaking it. If i cant find a buyer then i just might have to try it. The wieght is nothing alittle bit of creative rigging cant account for i dont think.

Nice color combo. If you sell it let me know. My brother will be shopping for a boat this spring and it would be cool to have a V-Mate 1 and a V-Mate II in the same colors. That V-Mate I would be great with my 1150 on it. I need the 200 for mine, that's what was on it for 25 years.

The V-Mate I weighs about 650lbs, so it is heavier than the motor, but I'd still be concerned about doubling the HP rating......
 
with all that weight out back it will want to stand on end upon take off. if you can pull out of that you may be ok. stopping will be a different story. you will have to feather the hell out if it to keep the water off the back of the boat. shoot, you will need a 32 or larger prop to even make it worth your time.
 
Put some wieght in the front
Have the prop shop custom make me a prop
Borrow the wave wackers off a walleye boat

Then i should be all set :) lol

Im not really seriously thinking about doing it, but i have an engine here without a boat thats what got me thinking. I still havent got to try out my tweaked 135 yet. I think thats actually puting out about 165-170hp. I have to wait for all the ice to move out the river.
 
Still would be fun to try, I am sure the people that put a 302 in a pinto where called nuts at one time also. I have done it, sure is fun.
 
Thats cool, what do you have on the back of yours and what kind of performace to do you get out of it? I just got this one in December and very excited about getting it out for the first time. It was my first checkmate. Ive restored one for a customer and every once in a while ill get one in for service but never actually owned one. The one i restored was a V-Mate I as well but it was a brown metalflake color.
 
dont waste your time i,ve got a mercury 125 elpto on mine .had to move the fuel tank to the front to keep the water out of the transom well . works great now but that motor weighs 346 pound i couldn't imagine any more. if you decide to do it wear your life vest and a scuba tank:)
 
Don't know how it works where you guys are at, but the local law enforcement on Lake Erie is constantly stopping us and doing checks. One thing they check for is the plate on your hull which tells what size motor the hull can have up to. If your motor is larger, they will give you a hefty fine.

Just something else to think about unless you use it on a private lake.

But then again, what you should do and what you can do are two totally different things.
