winter covering

$1,000 carport for when it's in between the covered boat lift season and the storage barn season. I keep my pontoon boat under the carport for winter storage.

I keep mine at Harbor Country Marine in heated storage. I like heated because my 88 Enforcer should not have that Freeze/Thaw Freeze/Thaw environment that Chicago has for weather.

If you can't keep it in inside storage, then shrink wrap is the next best choice. I used to shrink wrap my boats until I had the ability to keep them inside. Now 1 is in my pole barn and another is in a storage unit.

For the past 20 years or so I've been using a 2x4 in front and one in back with a 16 foot 2x4 as a ridge beam from one to the other with a good, heavy-duty tarp tied to the trailer at every eyelet. I make the vertical posts tall enough that the snow slides right off the tarp. I can get a few years out of the tarp and its relatively easy to pull one or two ropes off the stern if I want to go inside and work. I don't have to be at the mercy of the shrink wrap guy's schedule either.

1st Winter I shrink Wrapped with an access door. This Winter it's garaged. (don't mind the mess, we just moved in and I haven't had time to organize the garage yet)

With my first mate I did similar, except my set up was not as tall and required some snow removal to occur from time to time. I have had inside storage for the past few years on the new boat.
