Winter projects

Just got back from the River. Brisk 37 degrees out on the Columbia but the water was as smooth as it gets . Only go fast prop I had around was my unworked 26 pitch chopper. Damned thing is I got so happy I neglected to raise the motor up all the way and made the whole run before I noticed as I was putting the boat on the trailer that the motor was still 2 1/2" down from its top position which put the prop centerline 2 inches below the pad. Oh, the shame. I would have gone back out but I had just ripped the seat mounts out of the seat base and I didnt feel real good about the drivers seat flopping around . . In any case I hit 79.6 MPH on the GPS today. I think with the motor up where its supposed to be and the DAH worked 29 pitch SRX prop I have on the way it should hit well into the 80's. One of these days I may even get my 28 pitch ET cut chopper back from the douche weanie doing the work.

Got to work on the seat base today. If the weather keeps up and river stays smooth I'll take her back out tomorrow.

Congratulations Buddy, that's hauling the mail, so to speak. Sounds like there are a few more mph in there. The idea of fuel injection sounds inticing.
The idea of the seat coming loose at 80 does not. Was it an 'Oh S*** " moment?

The seat came loose 40 or so when I gassed it good. It pulls HARD from 40 to 70 or so. I just drilled new holes int he seat base and installed new lag bolts and mollys. Time to take her out for a spin while the water is still smooth.

Anyone done one? A bow cover thatis. I suppose it would need ribbing ?
I got mine from the factory. :)

They sent everything I needed to install it.

They sent the cover, snaps and they also sent a pole which snaps in the middle underneath to keep the cover somewhat elevated so that water runs off of it.

I'll bet I gain approximately 3-5 MPH with it on. :)

I just wonder how the thing would hold up at speed? I'd hate to see my face wrapped in canvas with a pole sticking out of my eye at 87 MPH.

On the Playmate, I had a cockpit cover made with an opening, in the middle, for the operators head to just stick through. I wanted the vessel as streamlined as possible and wanted the cockpit area enclosed. I removed bow cleat, lights, radio, starter, seats, etc (even most of my clothing). I did have to plumb in an intake scoop up front with flexible duct to the intake due to the 2.5 being inboard. I used tape around the edges of the cover but have not lost it with just the snaps and no tape. I think yours will stay put with just the snaps holding. Those openings in the hull create quite a drag at speed. Covering them makes for extra mph. I even applied some slick stuff like the sailboat racing guys do to the hull, it's supposed to repel water.

I like the cover, and yes, Dave, those transom straps are nice too. I'm also seriously considering the side rollers near the rear of the trailer. I've had a couple of close, sacred Checkmate fiberglass almost making contact with the trailer because of the wind or current, moments as of late.

Last of the winter projects.....I swear. 225 Promax injection along with a 7 petal front half and new Carson reeds on lapped 7 petal cages. Had to pull the owerhead after work to slap the fresh .060" milled 7 petal front half. It should complement the 200 block ported to 225 promax specs ( plus exhaust cut ) pretty well.

Looks fun man. You should gain some with that bow cover.

Didn't you already have a promax on here?

90 johnson, 140 johnson, 1500 Merc, 260 Merc, 1500 Merc, 150 Mercury Jet, 150 ( plus ) Merc propped, 200 Merc with 225 porting and now the current iteration.

Now its pretty much a full on 225 Pro Max clone with a little more compression and some exhaust chest porting. Given that the 225's dyno at or around 250 HP. I'll feel comfortable calling this motor 260 HP ( not to be confused with the crankcase injected 260 ) . Maybe a bit more.

Keeps me out of the bars and away from strange pussy. Got it fired up and adjusted today with the 7 petal reeds, pro max injection and external pump setup. Fires with a bump of the key. I used a aeromotive regulator and a Bosch 044 pump and kept the pumps check valve. I came back 2 hours after I turned the motor off and it still had 30 lbs of pressure in the line. 90 MPH here I come.

Took her out today. Seeing as it warmed up to 36 degrees how could I not? So anyway after pulling the front end and swapping a 7 petal front, replacing the 4 petal rubberized reed cages and fiber reeds with 7 petal cages and fiber reeds, the bow cover, 225 pro max injection and raising the compression to 138 lbs I gained 4 MPH to 84 MPH.. OK, thats with a 29 pitch prop. I didnt stay out long enough to swap props, change motor heights or any of that stuff. I will say the SRX prop is much easier to drive with than the big eared chopper but that chopper is way better out of the hole. Both props and setups maxed at 6400 RPM so I have some more setup time. I'll go on record as saying that for a sub 7000 RPM motor the 4 petal reeds are pretty damned good. The injection is nice though. Fires right up even cold.

Jack it up to .5" above the pad. (if it is not there already) I think you should be able to get a couple more R's out of it.

How do the plugs look? Have you checked your high end burn?
