Woohoo. Just picked up a 200 HP Merc Powerhead.

2.5 liter 200 HP steel sleeves. Complete powerhead with carbs and etc. Needs a rebuild. One bad cylinder. Got it for for $500. Even if it needs a sleeve I'm still golden at that price. The 2.0 fat block 150 might be taking a back seat next season.

nice find. I just missed out on a 200 2.4 that the guy listed for 200 bucks. . .the guy said someone stole "the little black box" off the side, but ran good before that.

talked to the guy on a Saturday afternoon planned to take the 2.5 hr hike sunday morning. . . .someone bought it sat night. :brickwall:

Yeah, I missed out on a 175 fast strike last year. 90 hours on it total since the guy bought it new. $2000 and the boat it came on and a sweet roller trailer and 5 stainless props. I was going to give the boat to a co worker and keep the motor and trailer. I was driving out the driveway on my way to Spokane and the guy called me and told me someone just bought it AFTER I had agreed to buy it already at that price. Pissed me off something fierce.

I'll build the 2.5 liter 200 up with shaved heads and a little port massaging and drop it on my existing mid section. The 150 runs like a raped ape with its 140 lbs compression but a good 7K 200 will be fun.

I was pretty pissed too, talked to the guy for 25 minutes and told him I was coming to buy it. he let some other guy come and swoop it. . .

I didn't say I was driving 2.5 hours one way just to look at it, I was going to sit in my truck for 5-6 hours on a sunday to buy the thing. I wonder how that conversation went between the buyer and seller: "theres a guy coming to buy it tomorrow morning" . . . "well ill come and buy it right now"

is what it is, but I just don't do business that way and lose respect for those that do.

I plan on doing the same motor work, thorough port job (already have my 175 heads milled) and a nice tune/rejet. im going to build the 175 either way, but it would have been nice to close out the season with a 2.4 and let the sale of the built 175 pay for the built 2.4.

With how many people flake out on buying things listed on the internet my policy is the first one to put cash in my hand is the winner. when dealing with people you've never met in person you can't take a strangers word for it. I understand the frustraion of somebody not holding something but I've been burned by holding something and the person I held it for didn't show.

Very true.

I just tell people that I can't hold it, but to call me before they get on the road. However, if someone says they are on the road I will wait to see if they show up before telling the next guy to come get it.

When I bought my new motah in the spring I sent a small deposit via PayPal to show I was serious and coming for it.

its first come first serve with craigslist strangers, no doubt. but I called him after I got on the road. . .granted it was right when I left my house (be stupid not to) but he didn't tell me until sun morning at 6:30 after I called him. he wasted my Saturday night more or less, a text message that he sold it 8pm the night before would have been all it took to recoup the priceless summer Saturday night.

yea, we are strangers, but bad business either way ya look at it.

paypal is an excellent tool, i should really start using it with the amount of stuff i reach out to buy off of craigslist.

I should mention I bought this through a well respected member on Scream and Fly so I had no reservations about sending a few hundred for a deposit. To a stranger it'd never be more than I was willing to throw away.
