bd,

We're also opening up tomorrow morning - God willing.

I'm going to take some pics and post them up on Endless Boating. :)

I think I'll make a 2008 Cottage Gallery Category for my various pics this year.

Maybe you'll join me and post up some good shots over there as well? :)

Opening weekend for me is always a mix of nerves and excitement. I'm always worried about how the place has made out, but always excited to get it opened up and go for a ride in the old Tin boat. :)

We've arrived to some "surprises" over the years. :o

well, i don't know what you are in for tomorrow - here are a few shots i took at the cottage tonight - i haven't seen the water this high since i was 15. i am a little concerned if the wind kicks up - could be some good damage.

Wowzers.

I created a gallery on EB for 2008 cottage pics.

Chris you should post them up in there and we'll make a neat little diary of 2008 cottage pics for the year.

We can look back at the end of the year and have a neat little retrospective. :)

I'll get some pics taken tomorrow of the lake and get them posted - if all goes well that is. :yell: :)

That looks like a problem. I have not seen ice on a lake since I was 15. You guys can have all that mess. Good luck I hope you have no damage but its not looking good

It's the wind that's the issue.

The water height just exaserbates the problem.

If it gets windy and its coming from the wrong direction, (towards your boathouse and docks) the ice will literally bull-doze its way right through stuff.

You usually can't do much either, it's still usually pretty solid. You can hit it with pipes or oars or whatever and it won't break.

What will break it, is if the wind really picks up and the ice gets wedged against the shore and the waves start rolling along and under it. That will cause the ice to shatter from underneath. When that happens, usually the ice comes out really quick and piles up on the shore.

It's pretty neat to see and hear.

It can go from looking like winter, to summer, in a matter of moments.

i'm a little worried about the dock, then again, maybe insurance would cover a new one!

Chris i will throw them over to EB, got some good ones of the river flooding in january too.

as long as the wind doesn't come up we should be ok, if it does, big problems on our hands, and nothing we can do about it.

Just got back got the place cleaned up and the dock in .Didnt get the lift in yet. Got the mate out of storage and fired up have some maint to do but all good. Turned out real nice 75 and sunny. alot of flooding to the south of the cottage on the river.though.But im high and dry.cant wait till next weekend.:surf::surf::surf::surf::surf::surf::surf::surf::surf::D:devil:and ill take some pics to post.
