Would this tow my boat???

I wouldn't want to tow my 253 Convincor with anything but a 3/4 ton truck. Half tonners squat too much, have wimpy brakes, and even wimpier engines. They are rated for it and will do it, but then again it is personal preference and driving style. I have an 07 Duramax right now (a little overkill for just the boat) but it is a great feeling knowing that you will be able to stop quickly, not get pushed around, and have the power to pull on crowded highways and heavy traffic situations. When me lease is up very soon here I am going to go to a 3/4 ton Avalanche with the 8100 Vortec (496 cu in). That should pull it just fine. I have never been a fan of half ton trucks anyways......I tend to snap things on them.

I pull my convincor 300 with a 07 chevy silverado crew cab that is 4 wheel drive. I have no problem pulling it. I would like to get a new crew cab 2500 diesel but I am going to keep running my 1500 for another year. I have 103,000 miles and with my triple axle trailer it is no big deal. I use my truck for work and get paid mileage on it so that is why I want to run it another year, plus I really do not need anything bigger for work.

i love my 08 silverado 1500 MAX, power of a 3/4ton or more, and better suspension and brakes then a regular 1/2 ton but still handles and rides like a 1/2 ton. i get 21mpg pulling my starfire at 70mph!!

I test drove a 08 VortecMAX but I would like it better with the new six speed (new for 09) tranny for towing. With the four speed, there is too wide of a range from gears 1-2. The gear ranges on the six speed Allison is great but I drove a 09 5300 Vortec with the new light duty six speed and they added the extra gears up top for fuel economy but didn't add a granny gear to improve towing. It felt like the same old 4 speed with a new gear between 2nd and 3rd and an extra overdrive. I know that the Avalanche 2500 I will get has the old 4-speed but at least it has a 496 to torque it up.

This winter, when gas went down to $1.54 a gallon I wanted to fill my boat (my 1988 251 Convincor)up with 80 gallons of premium. My diesel truck wouldn't start, and my wifes 2002 explorer had the trans out of it....My 1998 ford Taurus has a small hitch on it..so I thought I'd give it a try...after all, it DOES have the 24 valve Duratech engine in it,.....sopposed to be 200 horsepower. Well I got'er hooked up...man that taurus was sitt'n real low!!! I tried to pull forward but the front tires would just spin in the gravel. I thought the trailer brakes must be frozen stuck for sitt'n all winter. So I backed up a lil' bit and tried going forward a few more times. Once I got it going it wasn't to bad. It handled REALLY SUPPER BAD going down the road!!!!!! I kept it under 40 mph. Got o the gas station and realized I had forgotten my dang wallet! Drove back home to get my wallet....... and was so scared because I almost lost it when I had to stop real fast from some idiot that pulled out in front of me!!!! STUPID IDIOT!!! What was he thinking!!!! Anyways I didn't go back up to get the gas....so my boat is still empty and now I gotta pay the big 2.39 for premium.

I'm pulling a 20' Spectra with a Wrangler 4.0 with a six speed and it's all it needs to pull. Double the weight and less motor I do not think it would be safe. I installed elec brakes on mine and still I'm very carefull

SAFETY FIRST THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD THAT WE ALWAYS NEED TO THINK ABOUT WHEN TOWING

Feel free to use my checklist:

X Not a rice burning POS
X Within GCWR value
X Within tongue weight rating
X Trailer breaks working
X Watch out for other idiots, particularly those in POS foriegn cars and blue hairs (actually, this one applies whether towing or not) :thumb:

rice burners made in Japan are usually built BETTER than made in the USA stuff. It's sad to say, but it is true. And I work at a Ford Dealer and drive a Ford truck and my wife drives a Ford Taurus, but I still Know the Japs got it down pat when it comes to make'n stuff.....Made in Japan=good..... Made in USA=good....... Made in China= bad I'll take the rap for this post....but sometimes yo gotta face the facts.

Just remember that when you are looking for a job because the dealer you work at went out of business! Might have to move to Japan huh? :brickwall:

News to me. I know plenty of people that pull with rigs like that and do not have the chauffeur's. Might have to check into this one. :sssh:
Buddy of mine got pulled over for something else driving a work truck 3/4 ton hauling a dual axle trailer and the cop asked why he did not have a chauffeur's license for it but let him off on it to be nice.

Isn't that the truth! With the economy the way it is, anyplace could just close up with no warning and people be without a job.:( And you know how we hear the commercials to buy American to sopport the economy? I agree totally. If things got so bad, worse than they are now, would it work for the U.S. and the economy to stop inporting all the foreign cars and that way if someone, in the U.S. was going to buy a new car they would have to buy American made? Would that work to help the American car manufactures?, and the economy? ................Sorry:offtopic:
