Yet another Trimate restoration

My uncle gave me his 1977 trimate 2 that has been idle for 15 to 20 years and has been uncovered sitting outside in eastern ohio.I probably would not be attempting this restoration if it wasnt for this forum. I just wanted to thank everyone for sharing their experiences and advise.... I have read every one and i am sure it will save me alot of time and money.I will put up some pictures along the way and i am sure i will be looking for some advise. JD

Is the floor already removed, because it looks like it in the pics?

Thank you. The seats were removed and stored inside for sometime and the floor was partially removed. I removed the rest including the stringer.My uncle bought it new and did not use it very much.I am happy to say that the transom is in excellent shape. It has a Johnson 140 engine which i havent touched yet. Stringer replacement will be next. I have seen anyone replace the foam. Is that normal ?
 
Your off to a good start getting the boat for free take the top deck off and do everything transom floor and stringer replacing all the wood is the only way to go plan on 1500 to 2000 dollars in materials to do it right call Joe at mertons fiberglass supply he is great good luck.

Welcome to the gang. I have a soft spot for Trimates. That was my first Checkmate and I wish I still had it. Good luck on the boat.

welcome, boat looks good for sitting outside for so long. whats the chances you will be able to buff up the gel coat and keep the metal flake. good luck with the project.
 
Thanks,I hope i can. Ive seen some miracles performed on gelcoats on some of the other threads. I have been dying to work on it but i have bigger fish to fry!!!
