I noticed there was quite the variety of opinions on who makes the best boat trailers. So I'm going to set up a poll with five choices. Let's hear your top nominees....don't give any reasons or give away your best arguements quite yet....save that for the poll thread.

Alright....let's hear them!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Not to brag, but we build a pretty nice trailer. Tom Drezwiecki (Dr.Z) is one of the best fabricators/welders I know. We build boat, car, custom Hydraulic trailers for other dealers, etc.

We sell C-Hawk trailers also, C-Hawk is a very well built trailer, they do a great job, plus you can still order adjustable bunks, tailor the trailer to your boats needs instead of one size kind of fits all. C-Hawk uses paint from PPG, Atwood Brake Components, Hayes Axles, and the frame, before painting is baked in whats called PalmerKote, a baked on anti-corrosion process. Considering a trailer for a 26' boat is around $4,500 retail, thats not bad. Retail on roller trailers with half the fit and finish for the same size boat are around the same price. Retail for a single axle bunk for a 17', for a boat such as the Pulse Br is around $2,000.

Rick,

Do you have any idea what the duty would be if I bought a boat or a trailer from the US and brought it back to Canada?

The costs are terrible. You don't want to know! To save lots of $$$$$$, and I don't condone this as it's not the honest thing to do....

When you know the serial number of the boat you want to buy, get it registered in Canada. Then come down here with your papers, get your boat, apply the stickers or whatever you do in Canada, then tow it across. When the border asks, just tell them you were visiting lakes down here. They can't tell whether it's a new purchase or a boat you've owned for a long time. IF you do it honestly, you'll pay through the nose.

My newest boat came on one of the nicest trailers I've seen. Its a 97 TOW MASTER,it has twin aluminum "I" beams, diamond plate fenders and a TITAN Surge disc brake assembly.Tows and stops like a dream!

SMP trailers seem to be really nice the ambasador came on one.cleaned up it tows nice and loads and unloads great.

My 98 Chackmate came with a B&M Haulrite trailer made in Lake of the Ozarks Mo. Personally, I would not reccommend anybody to buy one of their trailers, The first month I had the boat, the brakes went out on the trailer due to poor design of the brake lines (pinched between the springs) I called the company and didn't receive any satisfaction. The roller on the front, didn't last even a year. This last year, several welds on the frame broke. Hope I don't seem to be too critical, just think I should have got more for my money.

I am also from Canada and have recieved quotes from Dealers in the US and wanted to bring a complete package accross the border. Is this possible by registering the boat prior to bringing it accross the border. If so I would certanly like to bring a package over the border in this manner. Could you please give me more info.

Hi JGILLIS, here is a link to a message I did a couple of weeks ago explaining my adventures bringing back my boat I bought in the United States. To register a boat in Canada you must provide the Bill of sale and the ownership of the previous owner, there is no cost associated with obtaining the license number but the tax has to be paid either at the time of purchase if it's new or afterwards in the case of a used boat purchased privately. If the boat is being brought into the country than the tax must be paid at the border. Please refer to my response as I have provided a pretty detailed explaination of all the in's and out's.

My GTX sits on a new dorsey trailer, made in oklahoma.Nice trailer, good brakes, good finish.I thought mate used C hawk exclusivly?

Dorseys are great trailers - all the tige's we sold came with them - they build semi trailer flatbeds too. They are out of Texas if memory serves correct.

I have always liked shoreland'r, they pull very nicely and their roller set up works very well - especially when having to dump boats onto blocks for boat shows!

this is the only boat I've had, but the SMP under my 76 V-Mate looks nearly new. It tows great. The previous owner replaced the wooden steps with diamond plate and put some Centerline Aluminum wheels on it. It has rollers underneath and on the sides. It has to be good quality to last 28 years and still be this good!

supposedly, the EZloader roller trailer under my Exciter is also an '84 according to the reg. (no titles on trailers here in mass.) and the I.D. plate is worn off. This trailer works awesome and is in Excellent shape. still has the old G78 14 tihttp://checkmate-boats.com/images/memberpics/mrtoadie4.jpgres on it.

I like eagle trailers, thats what i got under my mate right now, but i think there out of business, so my next choice would have to shore' lander.Nice quality and not priced out of sight. My 2 cents!
