Yukon found this 1973 Jetmate. He's just starting the process of restoring it back to like new condition. I'm looking forward to how this one turns out.

:thumb: Alot of elbo grease and some money and it will be running down baja's in know time. :brickwall: Are you going to do the jacuzy conversion for the pump?

Thanks to Chris for posting my pics!!

Well, here she is. In the pictures you can see how I found her. Looked like a scrap yard inside. She was sitting in our impound yard for at least 5 years. The other shots show it slightly cleaned out, but obviously lots more to go... but it's a start.

Bought an olds 455 for her (in the pic above) gonna rebuild that motor and toss her in and pray that she floats... heh heh... Fortunately there are many parts to bolt on to this motor. I have full exhaust, nice holly rocker covers, an intake manifold, ignition system and distributer etc so that will be nice... need a marine oil pan for it though. Got all the mounts, bellhousing universal joints for trans link to drive... as I say... most evrything but the motor was in her.

Though she looks bad... she isn't as bad as she looks... hull is almost perfect, no cracks or anything visable, will need to completly rebuild rear seats... they are rotted and gross thanks to people routing through her throughout the years and placing parts and such on them. At least all the wood is intact so I will be able to have proper measurments for the rebuild.

The deck on the other hand is extremely faded and pitted as well... I don't think a sanding is gonna bring it back to life... will most likely need to have the top redone professionaly (as I have no idea what to do with a gelcoat)

Captains chair had a tree growing out of it... laff... see above... but they seem pretty solid and should do for now.

There will be more pics to follow but things are going to go at a rather slow pace. I work alot of hours and won't have to much time on my hands. I am planning on getting her in the water and booting about a bit BEFORE full restore... I would like to get a bit of a feel for her and what she may need. I am hoping the jet drive and such are ok from sitting so long.

I am also hoping you all will not mind lending me a hand if I have questions. I am a virgin for this class of boat and could use all the help I can get.

Take care

I have lots of elbo grease and very little money... hope that will do... it's gonna have to...

I looked in the preformance for dummies to see what you ment by the pump... couldn't find that phrase so I don't know if you were joking about turning her into a jacuzy or what...

I have absolutely no idea when it comes to setting it up. The parts in the boat included a regular water pump (like the one presently on the motor for a car) my buddy says I need it, but I look at other motor setups (haven't found any real good shots of a marine setup for a 455) and notice the pump gone and 2 T type or even 90 degree type attachments for in and out mounted on the timing chain cover/waterpump mount. Guess once I arrange the parts that came with the boat I will maybe see how things go together.

P.S. I am a Mopar man as well!!! gotta love em!

No I was serious about the pump it is a retrofit for the omc system. It gains you alot of performance and more importantly parts are redily avalible.I have seen jets run with water pump and without it's a mater of what you like. And how you are going to use it.Ive got a buddy thats running a 74 vampire jet with the omc pump and he has a waterpump on it.If you have any questions let me know I might be able to answer them for you.

P.S. the pump is the jet pump or the turbin part of the drive assembly. And if you need parts i can get the marine parts at wholsale for ya.

Heh Heh Heh... well, that just proves how much of a dummy I am when it comes to boats... I still have no idea what you are talking about, though I do have a slight incling of a smidgen of an idea what you may be refering to.

I need to take a good look at my drive and engine bay. I assume we are talking about what brings in the water that cools the motor and such. I havn't been able to figure out where that water comes from and how it ties into the exhaust and motor. But that hurtle is still down the road for me. I guess I'll jump that one when I get to the dropping the motor in stage.

I do appreciate the post, sorry I'm such an idiot when it comes to boats. I probably shouldn't even of gotten this boat to begin with, but I fell in love with it at first site. It has such an old school hot rod look to it who wouldn't love her? It looks like it's doing 100mph just sitting there. I can't believe the original owner abandoned her like that.

I don't have the money to have pro's do it for me so I will have to do the best I can to breathe a little life back into her myself. I am very mechanicly inclined but feel so lost when I look at the marine parts and drive. It's all chinese to me.

LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE A LABOR OF LOVE BUT WELL WORTH THE EFFORT. THE WEED GROWING OUT OF THE SEAT IS PRETTY RETRO, KIND OF LIKE THOSE DAISY HOLDERS IN THE NEW VW BEETLES!!
lol.gif

I'll send you a pick of what i mean from my buddies boat and it will help you see how it goes together.

There is only one way to learn and thats hands on baby

You got it... I'll put it together, I'll make mistakes... I'll tear it apart and put it together again... I'll come crying to you guys... then try it again and get it right eventually... Then I'll make everyone around me envious as I cruise on by 'em in my classic 'Mate

Thanks for the offer of pic's... I'd really appreciate them. My email is in my profile.

I say go for it. Learn as you go. Take your time.
Heck I was in the same boat. Fell head over heals for the trimate. Sold an 18' sea ray, for a 16' checkmate. Had done some fiberglass work but nothing major. Here I am over a year later, still sanding and doing mods. They may work, they may not. But it sure is fun doing it. (did I say fun, must be the fiberglass dust)

Sweet lookin classic.

Good luck and fun on the restore, thats going to pay off big time down the road. Any body can buy a new boat, but its takes something special to grab an old classic like that and gently bring her back from the brink.

lookin forward to pics as you go, showen us your progress.
