Quick question guys. I'm having my boat serviced and just got a call about finding milky gear oil substance in shift linkage/shift cable. They are asking if they should pull the shift cover to "See" what is going on. mercruiser inboard 350/bravo 1. Advice?

Matt

Well, I just got my answer. The reservoir wasn't completely full and probably the cause. About a teaspoon of water in the gear oil. Not a big deal. The service rep remarked that there are not many hours on the boat and just wanted to touch base.
I'm having everything gone through, winterization service, lower end serviced, tune-up... etc.
Oh, and my speedometer pickup is plugged. As they say "B"reak "O"ut "A"nother "T"housand!

$1700 for this trip... OOF!:shakehead:

Well, I was a bit ticked off, to say the least. Went to get the boat back yesterday. Looked everything over and wasn't pleased with the wrench chips in the Bravo paint. They offered to repaint it, but it wasn't something I couldn't touch up myself. So the shop reduced the bill $150 and apologized a lot.

This morning I pulled it out to clean it up for the winter storage. I lowered the outdrive to scrub the oil/grease off and lo and behold!

Fresh oil oozing out from behind the prop.

I'm "F"ing LIVID!! Left them a message as they're closed today.

More and more I cannot believe the workmanship of folks today. The estimate was $1700, the final cost was $1400 and I paid for this "peace of mind" BS!. Now it will be another weekend waiting to hear what's next.:brickwall:

Pull the prop and swab out all the oil. See if it stops. The case will hold a lot of spilled oil after a refill. They should have cleaned it up, if that's all it is. Mine dribbles quite a bit after I change my oil.

They left the puddle after it was refilled. Should have cleaned it up, but I had some issues with them about the service.
On a side note, I had them run a diagnostic on it and I am reaching the Rev limit on it (which I knew) before full throttle. I'm running a Mirage Plus 21". I'm debating either staying with it and backing off when I hear the alarm, or going with the 23". I can get a few MPH extra I'm sure, but weighing the cost of the prop. $600...
I don't know. I have about a quarter throttle up left to play with.

Torn! :irked:
