Convincor 270 Back Seat Removal

BIGBREW

Member
How the heck do you do this?? I want to change my impellor and there is no way I can get to it without removing the back seat.

BIGBREW, wishing I had good news for you but I do not.
You have now entered the seventh circle of hell.
I removed just the backrest of the rear seat and laid on the bottom seat
pad to do the work, also have to take off the side pads between the
bolsters and the rear seat to get back rest out. Then I took off the entire
bracket with the seawater pump still attached from the motor.
(Note) If your wife has any valium in the house take this before starting,
because after you drop the same nut, bolt or socket in the bilge it is
possible to lose your temper and break unrelated items. Also mark which
way the hoses came off, if they get switched around it will instantly fry
your new impeller. If this happens the valium you took will no longer be
affective, only morphine or heroine will help at this point.
Good luck and hope you never have to change the starter or alt, their
almost as bad.

An air ratchet will help also. Cuts down on the time your on your head twisted like gumby. Oh and a stick magnet for the bolts your gonna drop.

It is easy to get at when you pull the motor :poke: That only takes 1.5 hours if you are good.

Just kidding, I don't know if you have the wooden storage boxes on the side like mine did, but with those removed you can sit on the side of the engine and work on it.

Im 6'1 at 260 lbs....whether I remove the box or not, Im still not fitting in there so I can change that pump, unless you got some good grease and a shoe horn!

Even in pain you still have one hell of a sense of humor. :bigthumb:

By chance, you didn't have a session with Sim after you were finished, did you? :rof:

:lol:You have not experienced the thrill of working on a boat until you rig a twin engine I/O boat and have to crawl under the motors to measure, mark and drill out the holes to mount the motor mounts and install the engines. Once drilled out you get the pleasure of squeezing back under the motors to run the bolts through and screw the nuts on...After dropping the nuts in the bilge half a dozen times :irked: and repositioning yourself and twisting in unnatural movements to pick them up you'll be permanently disfigured and mentally deranged! :eyecrazy:

Come on, im 6'2" and 285 lbs and i can do it! Haha. Trying to set timing and see marks on crank is real fun on mine. My back seat's backrest is fixed in the boat.

Lol I hear ya, i had a 27 wellcraft nova with twin 350's and i lived in that darn compartment. The compartment hatch was a 2 piece that had the springs that locked it in place and I couldn't tell you how many times I got hit in the head by them from the springs giving way or someone leaning over an hitting them. so i would say its safe to say it's not a matter of can't but a matter of not wanting too. Lol!

I feel your pain fellas. I gotta do my impeller again and I have to let someone do it for me. The 251 is too narrow and at 6' and 50 yrs old with my long legs and size 13 feet, I can't get in there. I have an employee who's short and stocky so he gets to go in. I just hand him the tools and it gets done. I hate to give up and would prefer to do it myself but I literally can't reach the damn thing!
