88 Spectra 188...150 blackmax with shaved heads, intake, CCMS reeds...21 pitch cleaver....68.5 at 6200....going to try a prop with a little more lift to get more of the hull out of the water...but for now....no bitches....runs like a swiss watch and I use it all the time...it sits at the dock behind my condo...I also have a 23 Powerplay I bought with a 450 horse 502 that was blown up, that is now going 548 cubes and 650 horse....that will be a fun one.

Have you ever run this boat when it was all stock? I have the same year and model, with the 150 XR4 and 22p Laser II prop, but haven't run it yet, and wondering what speeds I can expect.

Also, another member mentioned his Spectra chine walking badly at top speed. Does yours do this?

I have only had my 1988 Spectra up to 55 mph, but it was very smooth and no walking.

Thats 11% slip with his provided numbers. About par for a trophy. Those things slip almost as much as a chopper. Kind of high on the rpm but some people like it that way.

Not sure how you're getting that 11% number. Every prop calc I have used is showing 6%.

Its quite simple actually. The engineering concept is referred to as GIGO. Garbage In Garbage Out. You are inputting a 2.1:1 gearcase. The algorithm references 1) as the ratio denominator. He has a 2:1 gearcase. When you input the ratio, just put "2" as the gear ratio numerator and the program does the rest.If you were inputting a 1.67:1 ratio you wouldn't put 1.67.1.

Ive heard of some guys running them up to 6500 but I think it was only on a couple of years that would actually make hp up there. I put a set of 21 pitch props on my boat with the 200's and they hit about 6400 and that was it. I turned around and took the props off since the motor wasn't really designed to run that high.

My mistake ... so used to entering 1.87 I just hit 2.1 total brian fart on my part

Don't feel to bad. I tried it and it wouldn't work with 2 anything. I'm used to 1.5 and couldn't figure out how you guys where getting any %.

Sorry for not replying earlier guys. I completely forgot I posted here. I had to rebuild this engine last year because I stuck a piston at 7100 the first time I took this boat out on the water. As far as I can tell it's stock but now has 1 steel sleeve and 145psi cranking compression and timing at 25deg. the engine block is a 1983 I have no clue if that's a good year for letting it wind that tight but I haven't found a prop that I like better and can't afford a higher pitch trophy at this time.

According to my buddy I had the tach up to 6800 with a 26p laser2 but I didn't have the gps nor was I able to risk taking the split sec to look at the tach ( was not a easy drive ) so I don't mention that time.

I know he had a long deck at 98. something, not sure about a br. Mine has ran a best of 80.3 with a stock 225, pretty happy with that! Runs 75 with five on board.

69.5 with my 24 Trophy. 70.5 with a prop I borrowed from my friend Jimmy. I need to get the tach working and do some testing. Should have at least a couple more MPH in it.
