80.3 in the Pulsare

Ok. Best options sounds like Bob's setback because it also gives you 1.5 to 2.5 of lift. Just have to decide if I go 4 or 6 inches with the 8 inch jack plate. I guess I should check all my lines to the engine to make sure they can take the extra 4 to 6 inch.

Kushog Do you know if I can pick these up anywhere in Canada or best to go direct to Bob's in the US.

Personally I would go the 6" and you will be happy. I ordered mine direct but go on www.fastboatscanada.com or www.hpbcanada.com and see if someone local has something used/new for you. A manual set back is good because you can fine tune the lift, and bolt your electric lift to that, many guys do it that way.

Whatever you end up doing the general consensus is fixed plate or manual plate on transom then hydraulic onto that. Make sure you seal the bolts through the transom well with either 3m 4200 or Life Seal. No 3m 5200.

Anybody know how long a hex bolt I will need.

Guess I will go to brafasco and get stainless steel ones.

You might be right. The big question now is to set the height.

Do I set it at 1.5 hole option or 2.5

Part here on Monday. I will see if I can fine tune jack and trim for close to 27" from tip of cone to pad, 1 3/4" above. Although a 20 may act different than a 21 but I will be in the ballpark. Thanks for everyones help.

If you're in the Ontario area, you could try to come to the Muskoka checkmate rally, we'd love to see what you come up with

Is there going to be a Muskoka rally this year? Its really hard for us to make it but if all the stars align...

I would say set for all the way up, that's how mine is everything including motor on top hole, I have exactly 1" of travel "up" left in the jackplate over normal running height. I mocked it all out with engine hanging from a crane with a tape measure and straightedge in hand. Btw my measurement of 27" from pad to tip of cone was with the motor at aprx. the trim I run a top end... Neutral trim of course would reduce that measurement. And I have more setback, unfortunately every boat is different so a little trial and error will be in order! If you want to drop it in Kushog we can go for a blast and try some props.

Wow, I need to look at this post more often! A lot has happened since I last checked it. I'm subscribed now.

I have a Pulsare 2000 BRX with an 8" hydraulic plate and just put another 8" setback on Saturday. So right now I have total setback of 16" and at the top of the hydraulic plate my prop shaft is 1" above pad. Haven't had time to tinker with the setup yet but literally within 3 minutes of starting the motor I had it easily doing 70 MPH with more to go. It had no noticeable chine walk and this was with the bowrider cover off, a 27" Laser II prop, and stock Verado gearcase with torque tab that I made out of JB Weld SteelStick. Of course I am by no means done as my setup is still quite slipshod at this point, but putting the motor up and back is definitely the key.

Now that I have read all these recent posts though, I see that I should have used the bottom bolt hole on the motor bracket and I used the middle. So next I'm going to move the motor to the bottom bolt hole and re-adjust everything so the prop shaft is 2" above pad when the hydraulic plate is at the top. I'm also going to block off the top four water inlet holes on both sides so I can maintain water pressure at that height (the Verado case has four water holes on the front of the nose cone too). Then once I have the obvious flaws in my setup sorted out, I might lean on kushog's generosity and make the 20 minute drive to his lake to give his Scorpion a try!

Here's a pic of my current setup:

Looks great, how the hell do you post a pic? Says I'm not able to? Your set up should go fast enough to blow out that case, I'm thinking 90 with the right prop, can you say Sportmaster lol! That's the gist of it the way your set up, two plates or a bracket with some lift. The plate is nice because of adjustability, a bracket only might be a bit lighter. Can't wait to see the whole rig!

There's a trick to posting pics. I have to upload them to Photobucket, copy the link from Photobucket, then paste the link into my post on here.

For the lower unit, I realize that I'll need to get a Sportmaster or I'm going to have to keep it under 85 MPH. My boat budget is tapped for this year but a Sporty is definitely on the shopping list!

Finally got the set backs and have the boat in the shop today.

On holidays at the lake next week so I will report back how it works out.
