Maxxum Single I/O conversion?

osr1

New member
Hello all and thank you in advance. I could be out to lunch on this, but my search for a 25 foot single I/O Convincor hull has came up short. So, there is a 1989 Maxxum 28 foot that I want to go look at... My questions are, because it was set up for twin I/O and I want to just run my single, did these boats ever come single, and with transom modification is this idea possible? Thank you in advance for any and all consideration.

It would take a new or at least modified transom, and some stringer work, but anything can be done. Depending on what kind of power you put in it, I bet it would run better than a twin set up, and be a helluva lot easier to work on!!

I'm glad to hear that. I was afraid I would be told that a single wouldn't be enough. But the 25 I had just seemed like a slightly larger boat would be ideal.

plenty of single engine 283s so I don't see why not - certainly you are going to have to do some transom work but can be done.

you're going to want at least 450hp to run 60mph

Or you could buy my 283 hull and be boating in less than a week. Mine is a 92 and believe the maxxums were through 91. Drop motor in and go !!

There ya go, buy ProblemChilds 283 and be done!! No converting anything over, just drop in power and go!!!

Do you have a hull for sale? I'm in Ontario Canada, everything I can find is so far away. This maxxum is 2 hours from me. How would the maxxum compare to a 283?

Hope it works out for ya. If not get a hold of me. The Convincor has a different dash, top cap is quite a bit different. It sits on a new 2016 Vantage trailer w/6lugs tandem/led, disc. I am 1 hour north of Detroit off I75 @ I69. If I dont sell in the next 2-3 weeks I will drop my blown 509 in it and go play.

He is in Burton, Michigan area. Not terribly far from the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron/Sarnia.

I brought the Maxxum home last night. Couldn't pass on the deal. Paid what the trailer is worth. Now to decide on converting to a single and maybe turning up the combo I have, or stepping up and building another motor/drive and have the twins. Problem Child, I'm interested in knowing more. I'm not married to the maxxum yet.

So, what did i miss? Jeff you are parting one of the sweetest single 283's around? Sorry to hijack, just trying to catch up.

I was offering to sell my hull complete minus engine. Ready to move on . Ill put the 600sc in a cat possibly when I get it back. Or the 283 if I still have it.

After owning a 283 with a lightly modded 525 SC for a decade, I would say that as far as a single engine Convincor (non EFI) your boat is the best combo that there is. Good luck on future endeavors!
