New boat, not a Checkmate

Did it come equipped like that one in the picture?

    Checkmate Pulsare 2100 w/ 1998 Mercury Promax 300

Not necessarily.. ;) - and I own a Pulsare :). This is an individual choice. The GrandSport is truly a wonderful boat. Power-for-power, it will be the fastest V-hull you can hang an engine on, and they handle and ride like a dream. If you're comparing an Allison to a 20-yr-old rehabbed Pulsare...

    New in Indiana

Very nice rig. You got a great deal! I remember seeing seeing that one when I was looking, but it was pretty far away. Then I ended up buying one even farther away... That's usually how it goes. :) Have fun with it!

1st Baja mold made by Checkmate?

quote:
Originally posted by SCT: Bearclaw, Neil Baker (now owns Monarch boats) along with a couple of other Bucyrus guys founded Baja in the early 70s. The original name was something like Aeroglass. Doug Smith later bought into...

1st Baja mold made by Checkmate?

Doug Smith was the main founder of what became Baja, AFAIK. He had a house at Indian Lake, OH for a while back then, as we did. Big fella, heck of a nice guy. Don't remember if he had been affiliated with CM or in some other line of sales. Yes, they used a couple Check molds to start out in...

    Playmate in the works

One just went on ebay a couple months ago for around $2000 with a Johnson 70 Stinger on it, it loooked fairly original and in good shape. Was probably quite a runner. It was in Chicago. If your scour the web, they're out there, but not many. You're in WA like I am, and most are in the Midwest...

    15 v mate

Get a straightedge (metal, like a carpenter's square) at least 30-36" long. Hold the edge up against the flat pad on the bottom, parallel to the centerline of the boat (easiest to have her up on a hoist to do this). If you can see daylight between the straightedge and the bottom, you have a...

    15 v mate

Thanks, Chris. Yeah, I've had a few. I'm originally from OH, and my buddy's dad was a dealer in the late '60's to mid-'70's. I had a 16SS Baja in there too, and now the 'Stream, but I'll always be fond of Checkmates. jgoshow, that rig should have a lot more in it. Like I say, get the engine up...

    15 v mate

Hi: I had a '76 V-Mate I (successor to MX15) back in the mid-'70's, had a Merc 85 short shaft on it, but not for long - not enough performance (around 55 or so). Put a 1500XS on it - MUCH better, low 70's pretty easily and easy to handle. Had a friend with a '72 MX15 w/ a Merc 140 long shaft...
