So apparently seeing a swimming bear is bad luck!

Um...if that's the Enchanter that I think it is, you may want to call in a Ju-Ju man to shake some smoke at it; it might be cursed! If it's my old one, I bought it with a blown engine on it, the 175 Merc I put on it blew a hole in the block, now a third failure on the same hull??!! Sorry to hear...

    Further Sutphen Update

When I couldn't get the boat over 20mph I went back and looked....tip of the pitot was cracked right off. Sure glad that was the problem and I wasn't really going 20.

    Took out the Enchanter yesterday

Really pleased that it wound up with an enthusiast who'll keep it on the water. Will be watching the restoration; post a pic of it running if you get a chance. Thanks!

    Further Sutphen Update

Since you all talked me into buying this thing, I thought I ought to keep everyone updated: The 1974 Sutphen floats! Goes, too, though I can't tell how fast... no signal on cell at the lake and the speedo pitot hit something harder than water before I got a good read.

    " For Sale" 1986 21' Enchanter Parts

Sorry to hear about the trip from He-- ! All looked fine when the rig was pulling out. Trailer never gave trouble in the past, but then it's never been flown down I95 before. Glad to hear you eventually made it home safely !

    Vintage Sutphen Update

Good eye, Ianz...looked this morning and found a tag. It is a Land and Sea lift.

Haven't looked for a maker on it; it is a hydraulic jack plate. My first experience with one.

    " For Sale" 1986 21' Enchanter Parts

OK, so JFM is headed home with the old Enchanter. I'm glad it's with someone who'll use it instead of my hauling it to the dump in pieces! Looking forward to the restoration thread.

    Vintage Sutphen Update

Thanks for the invites; we're going to mark the calendar and try to make it. We've been short of events since they stopped having Hydroplane races down at Clarkesville, Va. (I bought the Sutphen partly to keep the wife from making me get her a Jersey Skiff!).

    Bad Day

Ouch, indeed! Glad it was deep enough to keep ya'll from getting launched out of the boat. Had a similar incident once with an unmarked, undocumented rock that came to within 10" of the surface in otherwise deep water; engine nearly jumped into the back seat. Since it happened on the highway...

    Vintage Sutphen Update

Finally Photos Thanks for the hints. Something odd was going on with my Copy function. After I restarted my PC a picture finally showed. Anyways, it's a 1974 Sport Pacer 17. 1988 Mercury 150 Black Max. I thought Checkmates were flat, but this thing has the shallowest hull I've seen this side...

Working On It Wish I could use attachments...much easier! I'm trying to post some photos, but it's been a while and I can't seem to get the URL links to work. I'll figure it out.

    Vintage Sutphen Update

OK, so after getting positive comments on this forum and finding generally positive reviews on the 'net I went ahead and bought the vintage Sutphen. Will not stop looking for a Checkmate, but this time of year prices and auction bids around here are going beyond where I want to go. My kid's...
