    1986 175hp Johnson-need some info or help

    of course You can check the outboard. Just make sure, the unit is getting water (into the lower unit). Fire it up, with jumper cables, and a battery.The starter is attached on top of unit, where the flywheel is. black to neg. source,and red to positive (on the starter). ed fulke

    trim/tilt help

    tilt/trim you need to get the model # from the unit, then go to www.iboats.com left side of screen, click on engine parts, then johnson, etc. Do you need the motor? or the entire set up? Anyway, That url is where i get a lot of my parts.

    crankshaft bearing blown

    1985 yamaha outboard 70 HP. Pulled crank out with all the pistons, and found out one of the main bearings are blown out. How the HEll do you change that one??! (what a mess)

    shift shaft is fine. But I have A BIG PROBLEM! One of the Main bearings on the crankshaft is blown! How the hell do you change one of those!!! HELP!

    Thanks, finally got it off the shaft, it took a minute, but i got it. The instructions said I had to disassemble the carbs,etc. But, it looks like I wasted my time. It did not need disassembly, the unit would have come off without the carbs being off.

    I took all the bolts out of the bottom, disconnected everything around motor, now I just "broke the mold" around the base, I just need some advice on how to get this engine off the base. The outboard is attached to the boat. I am rebuilding the engine with new pistons,etc. Thanks for any help!

    I have a 1985 yamaha 70 hp outboard that i am taking the exhaust cover off, to change gaskets and I ran into 4 of the bolts snapping just before the threads start. Anyone know how I am going to get the Studs out of the Holes? There is some thread to grab on to.
