    Doesn't look like any damage. The drive shaft broke at the base . In the lower unit. The upper looks fine but when it broke it leaked gear oil into the bilge area.

    I was out on the lake today cruising along and a little bass boat looked like he was wanting to race. I was cruising at around 40mph and rolled on the throttle.     1984 Exciter prop

    As far as I know its all stock internals. Only thing done that I know of is a intake manifold and holly 650 carb. It was like that when I got so I don't know if anything else was done to it.

    Just to add in, I put your figures into a prop slip calculator and if you were running a true 65 mph with a 23p prop and a 1.5:1 gear ratio you would be running -7% slip. So that is not possible. It says 61 mph with 0 slip, so my best guess is that you have closer to 10% slip which would put you...

    I also have a 84 exciter with the 350 I/0. I have run a few props on mine and here is what I have found. 21p cleaver ran 63 mph gps at 5400 rpms. 21p high five ran 60 mph at 5600 rpm currently have a 23p laser 2 running 67 mph at 4900 rpm. I think you need to get a gps reading on your speed...

    1984 Exciter restoration almost complete

    Here is my 1984 checkmate exciter almost complete. Picked it up for $1k and did a full sanding and buffing job on the original gel coat, new interior, and a simple tune up and a new prop. About 3k into the boat all together now and its looking good and running a solid 67mph on the original 350.

    help! lower swivel pin, gimbal ring

    Type o. Meant to say cotter pin. So its day 3 working on this pin. Propane torches to heat the aluminum, NOTHING happens. its still stuck. I don't know what to do to get this thing out. I might have to cut it out then drill the stuck parts out.
