Internet sales and the distance between seller/buyer has really complicated the negotiation process. I do a bit of buying and selling thru Craigslist etc and it can be a little frustrating at times. As the seller you deal with many people who are shopping out of their price range hoping to find that desperate seller stupid enough to accept a site unseen offer over the phone. IMHO it is not in either parties best interest to make or accept site unseen offers. It's just not good business. I have in the past and the buyer usually wants to pick every little thing apart in person and beat the price down even further from the "site unseen" agreed upon price.
I don't take any potential buyers seriously until I shake their hand. Then and only then the negotiation begins. Maybe I'm old school. I'm not opposed to asking a seller if they are flexible on the price especially if it's a little more than I care to spend. Some are FIRM and thats it but most of us are somewhat flexible. I will at least have enough respect to make offers and negotiate in person. Besides that the seller can't smell my cash over the phone and that changes everything.
Good luck Kct
