2011 244ZT prop selection

I think engines over 500 HP (from the factory) are emissions-exempt in Cali as of today. Its still lame though, one semi truck getting on the freeway will emit more pollution than each of us will all summer with our boats.

I'm proud to keep my old "dirty 2 stroke" carbed Mercury 200 hp V6 running like new and use it frequently. I feel like I'm personally pissing off Al Gore and the whole "global warming brigade" each time I fire it up.

Ultimately, the only real legacy I'm gonna leave behind is my carbon footprint.
I'm just trying to make sure I'm remembered as long as possible.:rof:

Well I called mercruiser and Dustin whipple and neither were familiar with removing the cats. Mercruiser actually told me that he thought the cats were part if the riser and I couldn't remove them. Well I took a look at it for myself lastnight.... I was very excited to find out the cats slid right out from the bottom of the riser. I can now get my PCM tuned for no cats without buying aftermarket exhaust. Here's a quick pic. There was 3 cats on each side, 6 all together.

Wow, talk about restrictive.

Heck, Take those pieces of Government Mandated Junk to the scrap yard, you can recover probably half of your upgrade costs!

Try OSO swap shop to see if you get any bites. Call a scrap yard and see what converters are going for. I'm sure they are "bend over and grab some KY" expensive from Merc.

It was a rough winter for me, but I finally got that PCM sent out to whipple this morning. It will prob be about 2 weeks til I get it back due to the long distance shipping. I will report back with some numbers as soon as I get it. I'm very excited. Also very excited to hear the sound of the motor after pulling the cats.

Sounds clean and breathing free now! Btw, drop your drive down more when running on muffs like that. The ujoints and gimbal bearing are spinning even when in neutral. That is hard on them.

Funny you say that, I heard it making a funny noise and that's exactly what it was. I dropped it a bit right after video.

Well I've been too proud to report back. I took it for a test drive and it was throwing an alarm at 4500 rpm saying "guard active" and cutting the motor out. But I will say it pulls extremely hard until 4500 rpm. I contacted whipple and he went thru his calibration and found that he left a guardian on for the exhaust manifold coolant temp. So I overnight it and he overnights it back. I take it for another run and bam same thing alarm and guard active. I've been racking my brain and looking at every wire connection on the motor. I now need to find out what code it's throwing to point me in the right directions. Without a diagnostic scan I'm looking for a needle in a hay stack. My local marine mechanic tried his CDI scanner with no luck of connecting. So now it's heading about an hour away to a certified mercury dealer for a few stupid recalls. I asked them to scan it while they are checking out the recalls. Needless to day I've had a terrible start to summer. Can't do anything without those codes!!:brickwall:
