2011 244ZT prop selection

Damn buddy hope your summer gets better. I dealt with all that impeller crap this year too. I will not be doing the initial start up of the season on the muffs again either.

Is yours a closed system or raw water cooled?

Bravo one drives hate to be started when the boat is out of the water, starting your motor with your drive up the way you did may have starved the impeller of necessary water because you crimp off the water line from your drive to your motor. Do you have a lower water pick up on the front of your drive? If you do you should tape that up when you run it out of the water also, or the water will just run out your front cone. Does not take much water starvation to smoke an impeller. I change mine every two years but I blew mine apart the last run of the year. For the $40 I am going to change mine every year (cheap insurance and beats having a beautiful day ruined) The cold water flush is a great idea, I was considering installing one myserf. You can bypass sucking water up through your drive and have plenty of water pressure right behind your motor. Dont run your motor out of the water unless you absolutely have to.

Man I hope you get it sorted out. This looks to be a cool project with some nice bolt ons and should be reliable when you figure it out.

I used to always run my boat on the muffs when I first got it. I liked how it sounded lol. Then I fried two impellers and I don't do it anymore. There is a small river very close to my house that they allow tiny bass boats and Jon boats but it has a really nice ramp. So I pack a bag of tools and stick the drive in there. It's about five minutes from my house works out pretty well.

The more I think about it, I have a feeling it's the impeller. I did start it with the drive the whole way up. Plus the water was pouring out the front of the outdrive.
I'll find out tomorrow.that impeller doesn't look very fun to change on my boat.

Yup you fried it. If you have to start the motor out of the water, drive goes down and you tape off the nose cone. When you had your drive up you pinched it off, add in to the equation the height of the impeller in reference to the ground, gravity wins. When your boat is in the water the water level is more "level" the impeller. They are $40 worth learning how to change yourself. My 270 is the same way. They must have used a shoe horn to put that motor in my boat. Being 6'1" at 250 does not help any, I cant get in there.

I had to do mine twice because of an air pocket. so needless to say i got very good at it. once you do it the first time youll be good to go. only looks like a bear to do. I removed the whole pump for mine.

Wasn't the impeller, it was a guardian code for the bigger air intake adapter whipple forgot to change. The diagnostic scan only had one thing " air intake volume high". It was just simply tripping the sensor. Worked a double last night, came home and showered. Then drove an hour away to the marina where the boat got the diagnostics. On my way back home I took tools to pull the PCM in the parking lot of the fed ex store so I could overnight it just to have it for the weekend. Now if that isn't dedication I'm not sure what is!!:bigthumb:

Finally, I got some numbers. I did a few quick test runs this evening before dark. I had about 3/4 tank of fuel with two people. I got 74 mph on GPS. The mid range power and pick up is down right impressive. I noticed myself backing out of the throttle a few times. Feels like a whole new boat. Less fuel and finding the sweet spot in the trim, I'm gonna say 76 will be no prob. So 6-8 mph gain off of 85hp. I'm very happy with the power gain. If I wanted more mph I could easily get it from a lab finished prop, but that won't be for a while.

That is a great speed on GPS glad you have it all worked out an running so good lots of season left. Happy boating and thanks for the info wil help others thinking of doing similar upgrades
