OG, since you would be the best one to ask...

What would be the best method for cutting the vertical parts of the boxes where they are glassed into the hull?

Got one, so I'm good in that department. Do I could it flush with the deck? cut the glass on both sides and will it come free? I don't want to break open the glass and expose the core if I can avoid it.

Cut it flush with the deck or both sides it should loose. I cut mine along the bottom and sides then used a wood chisel to break it loose.

Any suggestions on materials?

What type of glass and resin etc... will I need to rebuild a small boxed ledge along the gunwale?

I'm going to pull the metal part of the rub rail - where is a good place to buy the rivets and what is the best sealant to use behind it with reinstallation?

I'm going to do away with the carpet... what will I need to prep the surface and what is the best product to coat the floor with?

I'm going to post this as a new thread under "fiberglass, resins & composites" as well

You can use 1/2" exterior grade ply for those boxes, encapsulate it in resin and 1708. I'm not sure where the best place to buy rivets but you can use 3M 5200 sealant and anything else on the deck. As a matter a fact I would re seal all the deck hardware to be on the safe side. For the floor I used Tuff coat from Overton's ,roll gelcoat or use pirelli rubber flooring. Links provided below.

You gonna learn to balance vacation, work, resto's and family a little better than this!!!:poke::D Having said that my son's birthday is this Saturday so no working on the boat for me either......:D

Midday update...

Removed all of the interior boxing for the foam, along with the front and rear floatation boxes. 95% of the foam is out, but I still need to go around and do a final scrape and clean up followed by a sanding.

Good news is I only found the plywood for the boxed out areas to be rotted. All of the core appears to be solid and sealed tight. I will post up some pics of the progress later.

Life is very busy in the present time, so I didn't get a much done as I wanted to today. I became an Uncle on Thursday night, so I have been watching my brother in law and sister in laws dog and this morning was my last time before they get home. On top of that, my wife is throwing a bridal shower today so I had to watch my son after taking care of the dog, until my mom picked him up at 11am. I only had from 11am until 4:15 to work on the boat today:irked:

Sorry, I had to briefly derail my own thread, I hope no one minds:D

Back to the subject at hand...

I started by bringing all of my tools back out from the garage to the carport (since I was out of town for a week i locked them up in the garage) I cut out, with a circular saw and reciprocating saw, the main part of all the interior boxed out areas. There was a ledge running along the gunwale with the four floatation boxes. After I cut and removed the majority of the boxes, I removed the foam. I found a straight claw hammer to remove the bulk of the foam and 2" scraper for the balance to work best. Once I had almost all of the foam out, I used a multi tool to cut the glass along the hull where the plywood for the boxes joined. When the fiberglass was cut, the remainder of the wood came right out. The last thing I did was pull out the carpet and shop vac everything clean. I will start tomorrow by removing the pieces I didn't have time to cut out and sand everything down. Once I'm done with that, I'll start to mock up for my new interior.

Here are some pics from today

Your floor looks to be in good shape!:thumb: I hate that damn foam CM puts in their boats!:irked: OK I feel better now!!!:D

Sorry, no pics today. As usual I got a late start, because life once again got in the way. Today was my sisters bridal shower, I had to watch my son this morning while my wife got ready. I started around 11am today, but I jumped right in and didn't stop until it was dark out, hence the no pictures.

The first thing I did was straighten out my work area, there is nothing I hate more than a mess and clutter. I bagged all of the foam and fill two trash cans with the removed wood. After I cleaned up, I finished cutting out all of the remaining wood and glass from the flotation boxes. I moved on to sanding... I hit the entire inside of the boat, from the tip of the bow to the transom with 60 grit. I cleaned up all of the mess and noticed water seeping out of the horizontal support on the transom. I drilled a few holes and found it to be soaked, but the transom is totally dry?? I guess the horizontal piece is glassed in over the transom glass.

I now decided I will be replacing the horizontal support, since I'm adding a jack plate this year and likely a MUCH larger engine within the next two years. I removed all of the rivets in the rub rail and under the rub rail. I found it to be rather easy to get them out with a hammer and punch to knock the pin in then drill off the head with a 3/16" bit. There were a couple stubborn pins that wouldn't move, so I used the multi tool and cut them off. I got as far as spending the last 45 mins attempting to break the top deck free from the hull at the transom. I got everything else free, but the transom won't budge. I tried wedges, pry bars, jacks etc and it only moved about 3/4"... any advice?

That is it for today :o

A couple questions I have:

If I use gelcoat, pirelli or something similar over the floor, how perfect does the floor need to be prior to applying? If I need to smooth out some areas, what would be the best product to use?

Any advice on how to break the top deck free from the hull at the transom?!?!:irked:
