Sorry to hear you can't make it ,it's gonna be a blast. If anything changes come on up!MAN!!! I would give anything to make it to this- it's only a few hours awy too- but damn....I will not be able to make it this time- maybe next year....You guys have fun!!!!!!
I was towing a boat Saturday on the freeway it came off the hitch. I was doing 55+ and all of the sudden I see the boat taking off towards the center divider. The safety chain caught and pulled my truck almost sideways, Then the boat shot back towards the shoulder so I followed it. I had to speed up to take the slack out of the chain to straighten it out. Then I had to put on the brakes and let the boat hit my truck to slow it down The first impact broke the straps and put the boat almost sideways on the trailer from the nose hitting my truck. Then it bounced off my truck 3 more times before I got it to a stop.
All the years I have towed boats and trailers I never had this happen to me.
I got it to the shoulder it scared the crap out of me and to think what could of happened.
There was no cars around me, I was all over a 4 lane highway regaining control, the boat almost came off the trailer, My truck almost jackknifed on the first let loose. I was towing a customers 20' boat, My son was with me us and other people could have been hurt or killed.
I called a tow truck they lifted the boat and straighten it on the trailer. The boat was not hurt and the trailer was ok except for the hitch the tongue latch was bent they towed the boat for me. The back of my new GMC is hammered I can't even open the tail gate. I turned it into Insurance and it is going into the shop this week. I don't know if it will be done in time. Also it made me think do I want to tow my Convincor 5000 Miles?, at this point I think not.
So I had a 2" ball and the trailer said it takes a 2" ball "WTF" Checking out the trailer the ball can be knocked out, so I tried a 2-5/16 ball would not go in. It was damaged before and I did not know it. It could have cost a lot more damage or a life. I will evaluate a unknown trailer closer before I tow it anywhere in the future.
As for now my tow rig is damaged and I will have to see how it goes.
