checkmate weekend 2013

i will try and meet up with you guys somewhere most likely that sat . for the day. i wont know exactly for sure until about a few days before. never been up the chester river. i have been as far south as grasonville md from salem nj for just a day trip .

Is the "Glass house" on more open water/ It looks like it from the pics. They did mention water skiing in the add. Don't have time to map it now wife Is calling. I'll stay on, but away from my desk.

The "Glass House" is on the East fork of Langford Creek. It is a fairly deep and wide water body, and I don't reme, ber any No Wake zones on it. It is a quiet area without many houses. The best mapping/charting site is geogarage.com. once you figure out how to use it, you can use the overlay slide bar to balance between a chart and Sat image.

Anybody know if the chester is small boat friendly? The magothy was pretty rough last year. Any beaches or nice shore lines to hang out on?

The Chester is small boat friendly as well as large enough for bigger boats. It has plenty of depth, open enough to burn some gas and protected enough the wind shouldn't bother us. There are a lot of beaches to hang on. I don't remember anything in specific since I didn't stop at any beaches, but there is an island called Cacaway at the fork on Langford Creek that is very similar to Dobbins. The "Glass House" is about 3 miles up the creek from the island, and the island is about 2 miles off the Chester river channel. The house also appears to have a decent beach.

Here is a pick of Chestertown - About a 18-20 mile run from the "glass house"

So I'm excited about this, but not gonna lie I've never left my side of the bay with my boat-it's a little intimidating. My first summer with her, I just stayed in my comfort zone of middle river/dundalk/inner harbor area so I may have to invest in a navigation system, play it safe and trailer over there, or meet up with someone that knows where they are going.

Thanks for dropping me a line about this Spence. The last house you posted sounds like the best option IMHO. I have to talk this over with Jess and also double check on if its the same weekend as the Adirondack Romp up on Sacandaga. Hopefully the 4 of us can make it and the wives and kids can play while we tool around like teenagers. :) I will get an answer by the weekend.

Wondering how far from the house to the nearest ramp as well. Can't really research it on my phone at work.

EDIT: I fail at reading. Ramp on property.

John

Checked into a couple places and both are booked for the dates we picked.

The Glass house has June 7-14 available, but he will only do the full week. The week is a rate of $1700. I would pony up some extra if everyne else was willing to do the same.

There is still this one to look into

However, it is a three night min at $650 pr night plus taxes etc... that puts us up over 2k for the 3 day weekend. I'm fine if everyone else is too.

Based on my findings, this is what I have come up with. Change the date, or find a new base camp location. I'm open to suggestions.

I'm good with anything in June or July. As of right now I can only offer $300 as this is not my only get away this summer.

Spoiled Rotten,
When the time comes closer we can make plans to see if you can just follow me over. I'll be coming right past you and possibaly a few others wil be also.

School is still in session in mid June. Might make it tough for the whole family to come. If it were later I would see if we could make a whole week of it.

ok heres my quick run down, I only am looking at outsides and prices.
1 no pier
2 on bay, water could be real bad
3 just not feeling it lol
4 weekly only
5 seperate homes are nice but looks a little ruff
6 WINNER
7 to many steps for some:cheers:
8 winner #2

Just some thoughts. I really can do with what ever we can get.
Thanks Spence for taking the time.

I totally agree with you Keith, but your first choice is waaaaay north- up near the susquehanna. I'm fine with that, if everyone else doesn't mind. The other one is just south of the Magothy, near the navy base. I'm down for either one. I'm going to contact the owners now and see if they are available.

The north one actullay is the closest for most.

I didn't realize you were that far north. I just zoomed out on the map a saw where you would be heading out of. Have you been up in that area much? Anything good or bad?

I sent emails to both properties... hopefully one or both are available.

I havent run up that far. I know bruce has run up there to north east. I know of nothing bad up there just havent had a reason to go up there. Isnt it closer for you guys coming down? I think it was like 2hrs from there to you if I recall correct. I think its closer for jet, drop, and spoiled not haveing to trailer down and then back up. Also alot closer for a sail boat and jln if hes coming.

I'll have to check but the poker run is sometime around then. They run up to North east so seeing the big boats fly by may be a possibilty.

I have spent some time up that direction and all that i have seen is nice! there are a few decent hangout spots/sand bars and such. I know there is a nice place for some food n a beer on the north east. My brother actually lives just off the north east with a private little beach on the north east. Ill try to get him to chime in on what all is up that way! :thumb:

Your probaly thinking of the Nauti Goose. its a very popular resturant up there. Hosts the poker runs. If it turns out the spot it will save alot of sailing time.

Thoughts on #8:

Mill Creek is very small so probably won't want to stay there all day. We could scoot around the point south to the Severn which a very nice river and is home to the Annapolis dock. The problem with the Annapolis dock is it very tiny and packed on weekends. Most time you can't find a place to pull in.

The Severn is a great river to run, have done it my boat, but it will be crowded with lots of weekend warriors. Will be about as ruff as the Magothy due to boat traffic. Just some FYI. "I'll report (when I can) you 'all decide!"
;)

Bummer, I was kinda looking forward to the Glass house.
