ok for starters my boat is a 1989 checkmate spectre 20' with a evinrude 200 vro v6 has a 22 pitch raker prop on it. no jack plate or anything else on it....yet. i was on lake george about a month or so ago and with myself and 3 others and a full tank of fuel which is 29 gallons...gear for three people and my stereo at top revs, which i was informed was 5800 i topped out at 59.4 on gps. does this sound accurate and are there any little loop holes to make the engine quicker with out breaking the bank? thank you for help/ suggestions
I have the same boat hull was blueprinted by checkmate it has a land & sea jackplate with about 5.5 inches of set back running a johnson v-8 4 liter built by Baker marine pushing about 420 hp, 26p ballistic prop, nosecone, hot foot throttle, and seastar pro steering, top speed to date is 81.4 on gps.I was told by Kunkels marine to add maybe 2" more setback, and drop my prop to a 24p raker to get my rpms up to 6700, currently top rpms are 6300 and that is 81 mph. was also told I am at about the hulls limit.tops maybe I'll see is 85 with the prop and added setback. My boat starts to chinewalk about 75mph then smooths out but it took some seat time to learn how to drive it. If your not doing anything the end of June come on up to the rondack romp on great sacandaga lake, its a Scream & fly event and you will meet a lot of fast boaters and gain some valuable info. we will be there.:cheers
