Has anyone owned or heard of a GT160? I can buy one for cheap but it has no motor. It looks good and the guy who has it bought it for the 125hp,for his fishing boat....may need some interior work also.

Glastron boats were originally built in Austin, TX from the late 50"s thru early 80's. The GT 160 is a low profile speedster. They used one in a chase scene for a James Bond film Live and Let Die with Roger Moore. During that scene it was used to make a jump over a highway. World record boat jump at the time. Also, used several other Glastrons in the movie.

Here is a clip of the chase. GT is the first boat that Bond is in.

Glastrons were great boats back in their day. The v-hulls were fast and light.

GT160

Thanks for info! I thought that's what it was. Are they the same as the Sidewinders? The ones in the 2nd.part are I/O motors. But they all have a sleek look.

This was one my buddy has up till last year . Till he finally bought a checkmate w/Merc . Thats me on the John Deere lol

No, they are different. Both have a low profile look. Glastron began building the bigger boats with I/O's in them in the 70's. They also started installing jet drives in some of the bigger boats, as well. You can google Glastron and see most all of their boats. They were really innovative in their hull designs.

Their Glastron Carlsons are my favorites. Some really sweet rides!!!!!!!!!

Check them out.

Hey Will30

What year was that old 'Rude? Looks like a '74 or '75.

By the way, what was the deal with the vent on the port side? Never seen that before in a Glastron?

The motor was a 1972 125hp . I couldnt stand that thing NOT a OMC fan . The Vent on the side was from the old gas tank that was up in the bow at one time before my buddy had bought it .

the glastrons were always for many years way ahead of their time with style and performance...really cool boats and fast for the day...

Just a note to correct something. They used a GT 150 in the movie. The GT160 is basically the same boat, just a foot longer and it has a little different transom.

Check out this website. It has a lot of history about Glastrons.

Also, check out the Scimitars on this site. They only made them for 4 or 5 years back in the early 80's. They are very slick. Kinda like a futuristic, but sleeker Century Coronado with the wing T-tops.

THOSE ARE NICE BOATS JUST CHECK THE TRANSOM AND THE FLOORS GOOD , I KNOW YOU CAN GO TO THE CLASSIC GLASTRON SITE AND GET SOME GOOD INFO ON THEM .

I had a silver flake 84' CVX 16 with a 140 Johnny, it was a great little boat, the transom was on it's way out when I got it and I got it cheap, ran it about 4 years until the transom gave up, pulled the motor off it and hauled it to the dump.

There was also a Scimitar at my lake and I always thought it would be cool to have one, they are a neat looking boat.

I've owned a Glastron, a 2003 SX195 I/O. Here's a link from the factory site for the bigger Bond boat: http://www.glastron.com/our-history-1980s.aspx My boat built using VEC technology. VEC was supposed to be the wave of the future, but in actuality was a sub-standard build. I sold the boat after 2 seasons.

Move to Minnesota where my boat was made: http://www.glastron.com/our-history-1990s.aspx

Now in it's fourth home, Cadillac Michigan. Being built by the same crew that builds Four Winns: http://www.glastron.com/our-history-today.aspx
No more VEC as far as I know. Four Winns was owned by the same people, but the Four Winns management refused to build most of it's boats with the VEC technology.

the Scimitar is highly sought after boat. they usually sell for no less than 5000 in poor condition.

That was a GT150 in Live and Let Die, it was modified to center steer and had a 135 hp Evinrude outboard. I believe they did actually make a GT160 at one time, it was the predecessor to the CV-16. Although the GT150s look great they really didn't perform that great.
