No rooster tail

I have a 235 persuader, for some reason when i am running it hard I can't get a rooster tail, i trim up for what like seems forever and nada. sitting still the drive comes up fine. Is there something I am missing?

Look to see where your trim limit switch is set. It is located on your lower unit usually on the left side. You can adjust the hight it allows you to go. Be careful not to go too high as it can cause damage to the u joints. UThe highese you want to go is so that the pads on the sides of the lower unit are still inside the pads on the housing. trim it up on the trailer and you will see what I am talking about... Or it all else fails just bump the trailer button a little. But be careful because this can cause damage as well.

Be very careful trying to run a rooster tail with an I/O. Alpha drives do it much better than Bravos. The only time it is safe to run a tail with a bravo is if you have a shorty. Alphas are a little more forgiving with high trim angles but extended run time can prematurely wear the gimbal bearing/u joints and lead to failure....seen too many idiots blow their stuff up because it was cool to run a rooster tail on a stock setup. chances are if you are at your stock x dimension, a rostertail is way over trimmed anyways. If you need that much trim to run good numbers you need a prop with more bow lift. Just be careful with it.

As a rule of thumb, you don't your rooster tail higher than your engine cowling on an OB. Any higher and it is just wasted propulsion.. This may be different on an sterndrive? But I would still imagine the same physics are in play and that downward force isn't going to move you forward faster than forward force.. Just my 2cents..

persuader 235 1996, no trailer mode on switch. Have no idea where trim limiter is. I heard u get a little bit it has the bow up, if u saw my video in new checkmate owners and/or checkmates in action this is what it is doing...
http://youtu.be/4B_2mz1Pb8Q in the slow motion i am about 50 mph around 3200 rpm

Both my 219 and my 259 ran best mph with a 2' to 3' rooster tail...
I thought that was pretty normal for checkmates.
I can understand that if you are running a rooster thats 20 foot tall it can hurt some stuff but a little one is ideal in my experience.

Right...a few feet is fine....but trying to look like an outboard or surface drive going down the lake is not feasible unless you are built to do that. I guess I was thinking he wanted the big cool one. Unless you are surfacing a prop anything more than a few feet of rooster tail is wasted thrust.

We ran a roostertail any jetboater would be proud of with the eluder,400smc alpha & 27" mirage+ for about a quarter mile. When the u joints gave loose at 5000+ the only thing that held the lower unit on was the trim pistons. No warning just horror!! You want a kickass tail...get a jet, outboard or surface drive. Just my experience with big awe inspiring roostertails & outdrives.

Thanks! Yea, she sounds and runs great. Still nothing like my last one with the 383 stroker with 11:1 and ~500hp. ;)

From what i have read i do believe that WI's little motor is still floating around somewhere waiting for you to put it in its new home! But i have slept since i thought i read that! :D
