PAY PAL

I have only done smaller $ amounts like $1000 or less. BUT just remember, PayPal is at 5% surcharge now. Make sure you add that to the price of the boat.

Matt,is this 2.5%for each party?
He wants to pay the full amount paypal :eyecrazy:

It's been 3-4% for me. The seller has it taken out of his end. I just sold $38K in motors. I took a $1000 deposit through Paypal and had them wire the balance. Paypal fee on $38K is over $1000. I think I need the $1000 more than Paypal.

This is going back a couple years but I sold a truck on ebay. He paid me with a bank transfer of $10,000. It cost me $5 but took 7-10 days to clear. Was not a big deal because he had to fly in from cali and worked it around his work schedule.

A wire transfer should not take longer than 24 hours, or 3 days from out of the country. Once it's transfered, there is nothing to clear. IT IS in your account.

This fellow says he's on a off shore rig and he has limited access to internet, this is why he insist on paying paypal.the amount is 36,500$ not counting paypal fee.

I don't know if I like the sound of that.

I sold my center console last year and got $2000 deposited with PP and the rest in cash upon pick-up.

Although I don't enjoy meeting in parking lots with that much cash exchanging hands, it is worth the 5% to me on big dollars. Just be sure to have a "little" insurance with you.;)

Good luck.

I'd stay away if he insist on paying with paypal. I know it's tempting, but if you're have little 'red flags' popping up in your head, it's not worth it. If the seller pays with paypal and then does not like the boat or wants to 'scam' you, Paypal can take the money right back out of your account....without you even knowing. It has happen to my brother....on a much smaller value. A deposit through paypal is ok. GEt the rest in cash or a cleared certified funds check. Something sounds fishy here.

WoW...Isn't that stuff scary. Glad to hear you did your homework instead of just going along with it. I guess them scammers get a few 'not so smart' people that go along with the deal and they just keep doing it. PAy pal is nice to use to buy stuff, but when you're selling stuff, it's kinda not so nice, especially with large amounts of money.

dirty bastards certified check or cash and nothing else for me ive used pay pal for small **** but thats crazy its like you had a realtor or something

You also have to be careful with certified checks also. There has been a scam going on with fake ones. Dont know who to trust anymore.
