Dang...next thing we know, you'll be rubbing elbows with Felix Sabates and all those other yacht owners on LKN...:poke:

Red, as you know I have both styles, the 251 and my 50 gibson houseboat, and I can tell you we have a way to much fun on the house boat....no it's not fast..cruise at 20 mph, but there is a lot to say about climate controlled driving, grill set up and a 60mph jetski on the back, we on many cases have more than 20 cruising with us and if had to give up one boat or the other....sorry the checkmate would lose hands down....not that I don't love that to....just love the other a lot more...good luck Rob

Man, that is one sweet floating party boat. You can set up the band on the back and brew moonshine in one of the heads.

That is the exact boat as my buddy has only his is red instead of blue. They are a great riding boat, and very well built as said before. I know my enchanter looks like a dingy next to that thing, LOL! The only thing I hate about working on it was that heavy ass engine hatch.

I hear you on the engine cover I guess that's why mine was cut in 3 pieces.

Does your have the geo-thermal heat and a/c in it? I know the ac will run you out of the cabin because it will get so cold. You still have the snap in carpets? I cant remember 100% but I think they snap in on the floor and not to the cover so it being in pieces might not even been seen when the carpet is in.

As for the motor(s), you have enough know-how, why not rebuild the cores and add just a little extra to them? For alot less than $5200 x2, you could have alot of motor and extra power. Not sure on yours but Chips boat, only 1 motor has all the accessories. The second motor is only motor with a p/s dummy pulley. The warrante is nice but if one blows, you will still have to R&I the new motor and also how is merc on owner installed motors (do they want a merc shop to do install)? I would think for alot less money, you could add a lil something to get the power up from 220hp(?) to the 260hp range of a V8. There is a lot of performance parts for that 90* V6.

Anyways, congrats on a nice boat!

Double Trouble ... That's a pretty cool name....is it official?

Don't really know about the heat or A/C I have just been cleaning. I have not noticed it. But their is a crap load of switches in the cabin and it does have shore power. I was pretty much just cleaning the outside hull, engine room, and cock pit. I have not really studied the cabin yet. The rain here has been steady. 3 days of rain 2 days sun 3 days rain. Its all I can do to get washed whats needed before trying to stuff it in my shop.

And yes it has snap in carpet. The boat I know had 2 alternators and 2 power steering pumps

Hey red, are you going to have it registered or are you going to get it documented with the coastguard? Its cheaper to get it documented and you dont have to have registration numbers on the side anymore. Food for thought for ya!

Ok here is the deal with my new boat. I have known about this boat for 3 years. Three years ago a guy from NC bought this boat from Florida with one bad engine. He brings it to a friend of mine which does mechanic work and has him pull the bad engine out. The guy takes the engine to have it rebuilt and never returned. WTF. About a year ago I kept bugging my buddy what are you going to do with the boat and he said he was going to pull the drives off and sell them and the trailer. I told him I wanted the boat to stick in my pond and leave it their for a joke when he got done.

Not ever paying any attention to the boat or shape I decided to go over 2 weeks ago just to see if I could buy it all, so I could part it out. After further inspection of the boat I realized this thing was nice and just needed a bath.

NOW THE GOOD PART :D

As me and him always due we start trying to talk a price and as usual he wants me to make a offer. But I never make the first offer because he will only add money to that offer. He finally says I will take a grand and I said that's for the boat and trailer right, he said I guess. I told him I guess I could do that. So their you have a deal of a life time,, 1000 bucks.

The boat has 347 original hours on it. He was kept on a cover lift until 3 years ago when it was purchased. I know this because I found pics inside of the original owner and the drives still shine. The hull is scratch free and is solid the cabin is very clean. The boat came with twin 4.3 v6's 1 engine is missing most brackets are their,, the other engine is untouched.

The boat was never registered in NC and as we speak I am working with Florida DMV to get the proper paper work.

This is a win win situation because every dime I put in this boat I can get back because I only have a grand in it. I like the room inside because I can stand straight up and walk around and my wife loves the full bathroom. Its no rocket but I can cook on it and keep lots of beer cold and have a crap load of drinking buddies on it.

Nice Boat! Not what I expected from you after seeing pictures of that monster you had with the paperwork.

I was looking for something similar before I seen the Checkmate... I couldn't help myself... Can't wait till Spring...

My wife and I can't wait for a tour of Lake Norman...I'll bring the boat, gas, and the beer of course!

I am no documenting anything that just leaves a tax paper trail for me. Besides it only cost me I belive under 50 bucks here in NC for a 3 years sticker and no taxes.

Its not really what I had in mind either it just happened. Don't get me wrong I still have my eye out on other things. I am just not sure what or maybe I we lay low in this cruiser for a bit. After seeing the rough shape people keep their boats in I am wondering now if I messed up selling you that boat. Damn that red looked good.

PS
The chrome pipe on the drive which is the drive cooling shower. Stick your lips on the bottom of it and blow threw it to make sure the water is out. You don't want that to freeze and crack. I always do this every time I leave the lake for the reason I found a piece of wood stuck in it one time.

I will be your tour guide when your ready for Norman :thumb:
