Pulsare 2100BR OB purchase

PA-Checkmate

I haven't been in a v-hull for over 10 years but thinking of getting a new one now. I will be using my 300xs engine and wondering how the cable steering works with this much power.
1-Is there a lot of steering torque
2- does this model chine walk, and if so at what speed
3-is a hydraulic jack-plate needed
4-what prop do most use
5-what speeds do most get

Should have more questions later on

I answered your PM on S&F. As far as your questions here;;
1) I would add Sea Star Pro/Allison ram hyd. steering and not worry about steering torque...yes, without the hyd. steering there will be torque.
2) Pulsare 2100's will chine walk at about 70 mph...once they "hit" the pad they carry the nose and fly. Proper set up and seat time will tame the chine walk. They're alot more fun and challenging to drive than cats.
3) Hyd. Jack Plate is not mandatory but will help in overall versatility for skiing, carrying a large load, top end speed numbers, etc.
4) Most Pulsare owners have had success with Merc/Quicksilver's Tempest Plus or Trophy Plus props. Dah Choppers also work well.
5) Speeds...with a 3.0 liter 225, most guys run low to mid 70's. With a 300x or 300xs you should see speeds in the high 80's to low 90's.

Extra Credit...The Pulsare 2100 is a great boat and still one of the best looking/handling 21' profiles on the water!!!

I have a 2100 w/a 300XS

I agree with most of what JP said, although in my experience, the boat doesn't "hit the pad and carry the nose and fly" until just about 80gps.

It could be differences in set-up.

Also, I wouldn't even put the motor on without a hyd. jack plate. Get a j/p with as much "throw" as you can. That way you can get the propshaft as high as possible.

You will definitely experience chine-walk, but it will seem less drastic as seat time goes up.

Good luck and :welcome:

My Pulsare 2100Br with the 225 ProMax didn't chine walk at all up to 74 mph. Solid motor mounts and a worked prop help reduce chine walking greatly.

Just got back from doing a daytrip to the checkmate dealer. Drove one with the 225opti and 25p Merc prop-not sure what model it was and was setup with the CMC 6in fixed j/p. I think there were some very minor concerns with the boat which were

1- tach on peaked at 5100rpm
2- happy speedo showed 75mph WOT

Here is what I noticed on the water test. Was trying to figure the best setting which I think I found but at the upper 60's the back of the boat jumped to the portside. Question, what happened?

Another time while crossing some small boat wakes at nearly the same speed the hull just kinda flopped left and right and felt squirelly, then had to back out of the throttle to let it recover. Question, what happened?

3- How much setback is needed and usually how high/low do most run the propshaft in relation to the bottom.

4- what is ballpark $msrp$ on a single axle trailer?

I'm sure more questions to follow and thanks

let me correct that statement since I can edit the post.

what is ballpark $msrp$ for boat and a single axle trailer?

Not sure if the Tach was reading correctly..but, 75mph with a 225 Opti is not out of the question. The rpm's should have been higher than 5100. If the prop was a big ear Merc (like a Tempest Plus) it could have been the torque of the prop-blade trying to lean the boat to port side. That's why many Pulsare owners run the smaller diamete 4 blade Trophy Plus. The wobble you felt after hitting the wake could have been the boat falling off the pad and regaining composure...The Pulsare 2100 is a pretty forgiving hull, they handle chop and boat wakes fairly well for a 21' boat. They will not fly over the chop and wakes like a 21' Skater.

Dealer said they GPS'ed it at 71mph. So using my prop calculator with 10% slip the RPM is about 5700. That I think is max fo a 225opti.

Going back Friday to look it over some more. Something else I noticed on the demo ride there's a lot of wind over the widshield, much more than the Skater. Wonder if the seats can be lowered a few inches on their pedasile.

I lowered my seats 4" and moved them back about 7". The driving position feels way better. Feels like you are sitting in the boat, not on the boat.

I have three 21 Pulsares in stock, including a brand new 2007. They are priced complete on a single axel trailer , but without motor and prop, for $22,000-$24,000. I have new and used motors available. I'm in Fl. but will deliver to Pa. for $1200. Check them out on my website: http://liberatorfl.tripod.com/id15.html
I'll have it set-up and running perfect on delivery! You can call me days at 386-761-8050 or nights at 386-788-4378 I can answer any questions you may have. Thanx, Randy

It's running a Merc Tempest Plus 25p. Has engine mounted on center hole and CMC place was set in the middle of it's full travel.

I hate to tell you this, but the worst prop I ever ran on my Pulsare was a Tempest Plus 25. (I also ran a Tempest Plus 26 and 27) The 25 Tempest Plus was a Chine Walking SOB!!! Have them install a Trophy Plus 26 and take the boat out for a ride...it a world of difference and much easier to drive!!

Yup, what he said. Tempests suck on Checkmates. I had a 25, put it up for sale the day after I got it.

I also agree w/ Jup, Claupie, and Mark. It seemed like the Tempest had way to much blade area for the Pulsare.

And I absolutely LOVED the 23" Tempest I ran on my Pulsare with the 225 Promax motor. I tried a few other props, none compared to the Tempest for overall use.

JW, the key here is in the 23 pitch. Your smaller pitch prop wasn't trying to turn the boat on it's side as much as a taller pitch 25/26/27. The blades are so big on the Tempest Plus that they want to force one side up and the other side down thereby helping to induce chine walk. I also ran a 3 blade DAH chopper 26 and 28. They were good top end props and better than the Tempest Plus because the blades were round and smaller eared...but the Trophy's smaller diameter, extra 4th blade, and smaller ears give the prop great bite, carrying power and top end without the handling problems. I'm sure the Tempest Plus props would work great in a dual engine/counter rotating application though!
