renaming my boat

fireguy

Well-known member
I bought a documented boat and the name was very personal to the previous owner, it was based on his last name. So, in order to prevent me from constantly having to explain what it means...

I am thinking of either no name on the boat (no longer documented and will soon have state reg and hull numbers), or renaming it.

I was thinking of "First Mate"

Do any of you guys know if that name has already been used and if not, what do you think?

First mate I think is boring and old an well used

You forgot "stoopid", no just kidding.
I was looking for some honest input and I guess that was pretty honest. LOL.
Seriously Red, I appreciate your honesty.

Name it what ever you want, but get the old owners name off of it.

Dont rush it,, it will come along I come up with crap all the time. I have a new thread coming soon just waiting till I get back home to my main brain box:bigthumb:

Ugh my aunt named her new 210 Four Winns SS "Second Winn"

just ugh.

Anyway my Starflite was named "Babymaker II" but my wife made me take it off. i did it in a cool 70's germanic font. I still call it the "Kindermacher" and refer to the cushioned-underbow area as the "Stabbin' Cabin" much to Karen's chagrin.

I'm thinking the alternate will be "Aural Pleasure" but that's probably more applicable to something louder

AHH Boat names
I saw one this year on lake w

" Yes Dear"
To say it made me laugh at the guy is an understatement!!

Are You Superstitious

The Old Saying is that its Bad Luck to rename a boat. I like you didn't like the name of a documented sail boat and when I had it painted did rename it. Things worked out OK and I kept the boat another 15 years and actually had pretty good luck. I say rename it to your taste!

You gotta rename it.....I had a very long list of cool names for mine but the one that was on it grew on me and none of the other ones could beat it so it is still "Gimme Fuel". I was going to change it to "Fuelish Pleasure" if I did.

there is a thread on here somewere that has a long list of suggested names..
Mine would be ''My wet dream'',but the wife wont let me put it on.. :D

Yeah, been through this before. I started a thread about 2 years ago on here, i'm sure if you do a search you'll find it. There were allot of good names tossed around, none of which i used. I jsut didn't name it at all... at the time. My 234 Persuader is now named "Disturbance" with two color vinyl overlays. Thats because i scare the crap out of ppl at the docks when i light it off :D

You must de-name the boat first, there is a short process that you have to follow, google search will lead you to it. I renamed a boat without the ceremony and it sunk. I have de-named my Convincor. When I got it it was called "Heavy Breathing," I thought that was pretty gay.

Yes, the boat was originally name Wet Dream when it was purchased new in '97 (I believe) by the original owner.

I have gone through all of the legal stuff and the boat is no longer documented, but not the ceremony. At this point I am just waiting for the paperwork to get back from the state and to find out what my hull numbers will be. I kinda hate the thought of it cuz it looks really clean with no numbers. But, in the great state of IL it really serves no purpose to have the boat documented and actually costs more.

The guys at the firehouse were trying hard to come up with names last night. NONE of which could be posted on here without getting me sanctioned. :rof:

I think it was checkmate 175 that posted another denaming and renaming ceremony in another thread. I think I am going to do it, although my wife and kids are gonna think I'm nuts. It sounds like fun and if it is necessary to appease the gods than so be it.

Mine was named "WET DREAM" in big metalic letters.... took it off when the kids came along LOL. No name on it since.

I have also heard that it was bad luck to rename a boat. Apparently there is an old Sailor's ceremony that can be performed under a full moon and involves a bottle of Rum that is to help avoid the transfer “bad luck”. Either way a bottle of rum under a full moon is always a good plan.
