Starflite getting wet!

Yeah I ditched my multicolor decals and got the newer one color set with the horse head in white for the blue side of my boat. Right now it is naked of any decals and I kind of like the look. But it needs checkmate back on the side.

I fully understand what you are doing as that is what I did my with Trans Am resto. I went a little at a time and ended up with exactly what I wanted. A little bit can go a long way.

Either way your boat looks amazing! Congrats!

Vacation pictures

I have returned from a 9 day vacation in the 1000 Islands, NY.
Got a few shots of the boat and thought I would post them.

I had to take it easy for the first 5 to 6 hours of operation after I had the lower unit rebuilt.

These were the only pictures taken of the boat in operation. My wife was nice enough to take these for me. I have plenty taken while tied to the dock.

There was a poker run from Kingston to Brockville, Ontario on Saturday.
What a show. I was out for a ride and I didn't know about it so I didn't have my camera with me to take pictures when they came by.

I guess I should say "when they flew by me". Some had to be running in excess of 100.

One Checkmate was in the run that passed me as I sat and watched.
Only saw a total of 7 Checkmates during the whole week. All were I/O's
and larger than 24 feet.

After the poker run many of them tied together in the cove around the corner from the waterfront house I rented on Wellesley Island. Had to be atleast 200 boats in the cove.

I think this is the boat in the poker run I saw. If you are a forum member,
please speak up and give us some info on the run. This picture was taken from my dock at the north end of Wellesley Island just at the Narrows entering Lake of the Isles on Saturday afternoon.

All in all a great weeks vacation. I am happy with the boat and how it ran.
Now I have to dial it in. Only got 55 mph (GPS) at 5500 rpm with 3/4 tank of gas. 14-1/2 x 22P Raker at 6-1/2" below the "V". I know I need more prop, atleast a 24P. As I give a little trim I can easily wind the motor past
6000 rpm.
If I add a jack plate and lift the motor to 3-1/2" and then trim up the motor I think I will easily overrev the motor with the 24P Raker.

I will do a little at a time and see what each change will do.

Again, I want to say "Thank you" to all the , members that have offered advise during my resto to get me to where I am today.

Jim

Boat looks good. Tent the windows that would look awsome with the white boat!!! My boat windows are tented it looks sweet :thumb:

I agree. Ross's Starflite looked sweet. I already have the factory tint, but
it does need to be darker. I had the frames powder coated before reassembly. I will take it apart over this winter and tint the glass with the limo black.

Thank you for your compliment.

Said it before and will say it again, looks great! I agree on the tinted windshield

This winter the mate will get the windshield tinted, a jackplate and hydraulic steering.

While the factory tint does get compliments, it will look better with a darker tint. Limo black as Ross suggested.

I agree limo tint will do the trick!!!! I've got the black my windows and paint the frame, the idiot that had the boat before me tinted the windows on the outside not inside.:shakehead: Plus I thinking about derigging the boat for fresh paint top to bottom.:thumb:

Don't know if you're planning to do it yourself or you've done it before, but before long I'll be posting my experience with painting my boat (as well as other parts of the resto). I've been through roll/tip, roll/roll and spray (with a Preval). I should be finished all paint this weekend unless it rains. I may decide to "flake" the sides later with a real gun.

I found that it was not quite as easy [severe understatement] as Web forums or instructional DVDs would have you believe ... at least for the first-timer.

I'll probably do the prep work then get someone to spray the boat, that's the direction I'm leaning towards. I did the roll and tip method after the floor /transom resto,it came out pretty good although could've done better. I do agree that it looked easy on the instructional DVD's and you need a second person helping.

I am guessing you are happy with the motor performance now that it is running good. New paint from top to bottom (or vice versa) will be an ambitous task with the 24' length. Can Trey rig the boat at his place to suspend it from a hoist to get the bottom done?

For the most part yes, I'm happy with the performance just need a little more work on the setup. Trey has the ideal place to suspend the boat in the air so the bottom can be painted. I'm not sure if I want to be underneath it while it's hanging there though.
