Suggestion box...

Bill, you and Chris sound like 2 women fighting!!!!! In defense of Bill, he is misunderstood on this website. I have met him and Steph and they are great people. My wife and I are going to visit them this weekend. As far as the suggestion box goes, if anyone else would mention it they would not have been criticized. I was just at Checkmate this past week and met with Kip. I would bet that he would not take offense to a few suggestions.

That's what i've been trying to say......Bill i have no problem with you....and i hope you don't think other wise! This has just got way out of hand! That's why i haven't been on here lately ...it just seems to get ugly no matter what.

I agree Kip, I did not think you had a problem with me. Thanks for taking care of the cover! If you do not mind, I want to call you next week after the guys from Lenco have come to see you so we can figure out how to mount new lifting rams for the hatch. If I had a problem with you or Checkmate Kip, you would have heard from me. I have been leting my dealer earn their money and do their job by taking care of things. My suggestions were only that, suggestions. Take care and keep building awesome boats.

As with anything, be it boats cars or what ever there is no PERFECT example. But on the other hand I love to be different. Did I buy my old ass boat because it was a mate or the reputation of checkmate, NOPE, I liked the way it looked. I love it even more now that I have had to take all the wood out of the dam thing and redo all of it. Was the boat buil well, you bet, was it perfect No, is it mine, you bet. In my opion do I want to hear about every little problem every checkmate has. Nope not today. Do people want or need help upgrading, modifying, adjusting set up, or just having fun with there boat. I am here for you and will help if I can.

Sorry Gus, I just though it would be nice to add suggestions to what people might wnat to see in a new Checkmate when they buy it. Chaparral took customer suggestions very seriously and many time saw many new, small touches, on the upcoming model year. Simply sugesstions, not, Why the hell did you ot do this

I hope this website continues on as I get on numerous times each and everyday since I happened across the site.I just bought my fifth Checkmate and have been working on it for over 2 months with a lot of suggestions and help from guys on this website.I like the way Checkmate look and have felt the same way since my first one almost 25 years ago.I have been to the Bucyrus plant several times and found the people helpful and friendly.I vote to keeping this great site going if at all possible.

No sweat Bill, I have the first suggestion.

Rate boats for more HP.
Sorry, I have a major need for speed on the water. Its been way to long since I flew the boat.

That is pretty Impressive, still owning Checkmates after 25 years, most companies would love to have that loyalty. I toured the plant this past Nov. and found it to bee very informative. Almost too informative, it made it very hard to make up our minds on how to have the boat built. Now the wife tells me she want the ZT 280 but does not want to part with the 240 because we love the color scheme so much. When the sun reflects off of the water onto the metal flake, it looks like fiber optic lights.

Bill, sorry bud but you have been slamming Checkmate for about six months now. It started before your boat was even built. It's not an all out frontal assault mind you, it's a little comment here, a little comment there. And via email, it's pretty clear how you feel about them. A few days ago you said you were selling your boat and buying a Velocity, you even listed it for sale.

And it's all good, you are entitled to your opinion and you can post it here if you like and conversely we are entitled to disagree with you.

What I think is totally lame, is the way you have been trying to disguise your bashing as just helpful, little suggestions. It's sorta like the wolf, giving the farmer helpful little suggestions on how to secure the hen house gate. And, I for one, recognize the little game.

Personally, I know a number of members that have walked on eggshells around here, worrying that they might set you off. And I'm here to tell you, that I for one am not prepared to do it anymore. So if I disagree with you, I'm going to express it. And if I feel you are being unfair, I'm going to call you on it.

And that's what this thread is really about.

A 300?? Not sure it would float.
The new color will require sunglasses.
Not going to let the cat out of the bag yet.

Crhis, As i stated in an e-mail to you, I have recently found out that many of my rpoblems were dealer related, not Checkmate. I have not even talked to Checkmate for 2 monthes. Yes, I stated I would be interestedin an Eliminator if/when my boat sells. They have to most to offer as far as dealer support in my area. Unfortunately, until there is a Checkmate dealer in my area, I won't buy another one. That is not because Checkmate is a bad boat, but there are responsibilities that a dealership has, and when the dealer is 32o miles away, it makes it very difficult to get things done for what ever reason. If I hate Checkmate so much, why did I line up the sale of Bayviews 260 to a friend of mine from Oklahoma.
Hey if anyone disagrees with me, good. You are lying if you say you never disagree with someone and you would never learn anything if you do not talk about your dissagreements. It makes better people.
I will say this for the last time, my suggestion are simply suggestions. How can adding cockpit lights or more texture to the non-skip offend anyone? I sometimes read too much into things and it sounds like you have done that hear Chris. If Kip thinks I am bashing him or critisizing unessessarily, let him tell me. If I offend you and your board then you tell me please. I do not offend on purpose, but when you type meesages, it is all taken by the mood or temperment of the reader. For anyone to be on eggshells because of me is rediculous. Hey, the way I see it, an eye for an eye. If I offend anyone, tell me, privately if you wish, my e-mail is listed on my profile. Then I can try to explain my meaning, because it is never to offend. I can read things 2 or 3 different times and get different meanins each time. So... in short take it with a grain of salt and can we call this (boring to others)fued a done deal? If I piss you off Chris, call me on it, and I will do the same. Cool?!?!

I'll move on from this topic too, just want to add my comments. I'll try to as positive as I can.

Kicking their asses, how? By selling more boats? Checkmate probably will never sell as many boats as Baja. Baja is a mass produced assembly-line boat. How can you compare them to Checkmate. They cut corners that Checkmate doesn't. That is a story in itself that may of you can research on your own. What I've said already is borderline bashing of Baja and I don't want to do that, they are a great boat, It would be ignorant of me to say otherwise.

But, please explain to me how Baja is better....As mentioned before on this site, all boats have something wrong with them, none are perfect. But c'mon, Baja? I would even go as far to say Checkmate boats are built just as well as Eliminators. What makes them so great? Kevlar? I have seen many up close and personal, very nice boats, well built. But does the craftsmenship surpass Checkmate? No, I would say very similar in quality.

I think the biggest problem with Checkmate is they concentrate on making a quality hull and deck with top notch fiberglass and gel-coat work. They get caught up in that, and literaly forget about little thing like: what speedo you ordered, what color bezels you asked for, maybe install the wrong stereo..stuff like that. You know what though, they'll take care of it. Legally they have to. Can't get all bent out of shape over it, I've been there. But to say their glass work and gel work, which are them main items we look for in a boat for quality, is not better than most is just crazy.

That's all I have to say. And if the majority of you do not beleve that, then I don't have anything in common with the people here.

-Craig

Craig. Checkmate does build a highter quality boat than Baja, But Baja kicks Checkmate's ass in marketing and immenities. I just as easiliy could have bought a Baja or Eliminator from Hawkeye, but I chose a Checkmate. I said my next boat would be an Eliminator, not because they are so much better, but I can drive up the road to Lowmoor and buy it. I never said anyone was better than Checkmate, but alot of times, when you have towo comperable boats as far as quality goes, the one that wins is the one with the litlle extras and a dealer that will be there for you. Why do you think we see soooo many Baja's on the River. Trust me, I would love it if Hawkeye sold Checkmate instead of Baja. Checkmate almost came her to the Quad Cities, but lost out to Velocity. Small things like Cockpit lights, recessed ladders, circut breakers instead of fuses... They do not make the quality beter, just more appealing. See where I am going Craig. Believe it or not we do see eye to eye on the quality issue. Where we don't I don't care if you spend 10 grand or a million buck on a boat, it should be right. Checkmate did a great job on my bezels, and metal flake. The colors are like no other. So, my hull is wavy, I will live with that, I am not asking Checkmate to do anything. If you are refering to the steering wheel issue, I stated from my first mention of it, I ordered it, I did not like it, Checkmate did not make it, they just installed it for me. I had not seen it until I took delivery of the boat, so it was a blind order. I did state that that was my problem and only my problem. No bog deal there. As far as the other issues, you do not know anything about them and probably never will. I have not discussed them here. They are between my dealer and Checkmate, I can't say much for the dealer, but I have to now work directly with Checkmate on the issues, and I personally thanked Kip in Private.
Lastly, I have done my research and plenty of it, I just choose to be a little vague on some of the stuff, because people really do not want to hear the whole story.
