The good The bad and not so good

I looked at the before and after pics you posted of the motor and Gil bracket.

As a ex welder/fabricator and builder of top fuel and prostock drag bikes
I would suggest you cut the Gil bracket shorter and reweld the tube set
back to the original mounting plates. Shorter mount and no new holes to drill.
Hell, if I was still in the business I would just fab a complete new
bracket with a built in height adjustment.

Just a thought. Do you know a welder in your area that you could trust?

I've got a friend that works for a fabrication shop, never thought about cutting the bracket.

As a last resort altering the bracket may help you.

The unfortunate part of the whole deal, is "It just cost money".

I've thought about that since you mention having the bracket and fabbed, right now my main concern is the motor. I have yet to find a reputable dealer that services Evinrude. I think OMC went belly up, alot of the dealers quit selling and servicing the johnnyrudes.:( So I ordered the diagnostic software and hope the problem is minor. My fear is the ECU went out and that's a smooth $1800.00 to replace. That's hard to justify on motor worth maybe $5500.00.

I understand your concern about qualified mechanics. Here in Cape May
County, NJ there is only one dealer that is truely qualified to work on the
Ficht motors. I stayed away from purchasing that model because this guy is so busy that you may have to leave your motor there for 4 to 5 weeks for him to work on it, let alone the cost for some of the parts.

CP BRP took over OMC. Fitch technoilogy by OMC just never panned out for them and quality control has really taken leaps and bounds since BRP took them over. You may want to try the Scream and Fly site in the motor section.
The reason I went with the Evinrude Etec by BRP is because they do have a winner with the Etec - it's come a long ways since the OMC owned days and Fitch technology. I know where you can get a killer deal in the fall for a Etec in the 220-250 range if ya decide to update in the falls. :thumb:

The guys I've dealt with in the past no longer carry or service the johnson/Evinrude line anymore. They now sell yamaha's, Hondas and Mercury. I'm seriously considering trading the motor for a Mercury or Yamaha, the problem is it's hard to find one with 25" shaft.

Thanks!! Does that 250 HP motor have 25" Shaft? I've read every forum, that I could find on Evinrude and the problems OMC had. If I had known about the problems, I would've passed on the Enforcer and bought something else. You live and learn on used boats.

The 2000-2002 motors were the problem riddled ones, at least from what I've read.... OMC had outside suppliers building some of the fuel injection parts and the qc was lacking. When BRP bought OMC I guess they addressed this issue. Everything built after 02 was supposedly good, from what I've read...

You've got a good motor, Robbie- imo it'd be worth fixin, but I can get why you're frustrated... espically after bumping the dock.

I spent almost the whole 1st summer with the Exciter chasing problems in my merc- lots of time, money, and paddling was spent that year:brickwall: I started keeping two oars onboard the boat after the first couple of go arounds with it. One regular and a collasable one. I might buy another cheap collasable one because I still carry both of them to this day on the boats.

I hope you can get things sorted without it costing a fortune. I'm guessing that you already have a service manual or two for it, right?

I've got the problem motor 2001 Evrinrude 250 HP Ficht Ram Injection that was titled in 2006.:brickwall: But everything that I've read so far the problems ocurred in the 150, 175 and 200HP motors for those years.

The ski team I bought mine from had 3 250 HO's this past fall 2 were 20in and 1 was 25.
They sell their Etec's every fall so you always get all the warrenty remaining and at a VERY good price. If I remember correctly the 2010 250HO's they sold this past fall and spring went for 9500 a piece.
They keep the shipping pallets and everything and are easy people to deal with. All your current rigging will work on the new Etec's as well so you would not have that extra cost also which really adds up faxt..

I'll get this one fixed to make thru the summer then repower in the winter. I wonder how much would it cost to ship the motor here in SC? Let me know how to get in touch with the ski team. Thanks
