What Checkmate's Are Pulled By...

The first pic is my 01 f-350(7.3 liter turbo diesel) and the second pic is my wifes(ms Disturbed) 00 cadillac escalade, with 20" foose rims. its really a nice truck, but it never sees the mate behind it... she wouldn't stand for that...its 4-wheel drive, but its never seen offroad, if i had my way it would be the perfect deer huntin vehicle...lol

My "Checkmate" tow vehicle is a '99 Ford F-350 Superduty (crew cab shortbed) with a warmed up Triton SOHC V-10 Torque monster!

It is a "prerunner" style truck being 2wd and I added a 6" lift ProComp suspension system with 35-12.50-16.5 BFG All-Terrain TA's on 16.5x10 American Racing wheels.... Looks sweet...

Now if I could only get better than 12MPG towing this boat or my buddies 30'er...

I have the same truck in a 2001. I love the V10. What did you use to "warm up" yours. I thought about using the Banks complete Power Pack system but now that I have 60,000 miles on it I think I'll just trade in a couple years and get the V10 with the 3 valve heads. I seem to have enough power to tow what I tow anyway, it's just fun to have more.

I tow my 27' Dutchmen 5th wheel and the Checkmate behind that. Later!

Jim

Coming soon to a lake near you! <span class="ev_code_RED">"Secret Agent"</span>

My V10 mods:
K&N cold air kit...$275
Custom 3" mandral bent dual exhaust...$500
Reprogrammed the ECM (thanks Ford Experimental Team)...Priceless!
Dyno pulls with stock tires...350hp/550ft.lbs!

I'm thinking of selling and getting into a newer 3valve V8 (300hp stock now)... I really don't need the V10 for what I tow. Funny thing is I actually get 16mpg X-way not towing! It gets 3mpg better than it did stock...

Jim:

The best I can get is 14.5mpg. The lowest is 8. It makes no difference if the boat is behind the 5th wheel or not. I think the 5th wheel cuts all the wind and the boat is just along for the ride. I didn't buy it for the mieage though.

When we reprogram the Power Strokes, Cummins or Duramax, they almost all get better mileage.

Jim

jkeiper...
I thought about a Diesel, but I have a 1.25 mile drive to work, and diesel is $2.29 a gallon today by me... and regular is $1.97. So the "mileage" gain isn't going to cover the cost difference in fuel. What a scam on the fuel prices when is costs way less to produce diesel!

I was thinking about dropping a Lightning 5.4L Supercharged motor in my truck... but realized my time, efforts, and cash could be better spent!

MY BOAT IS PULLED BY A 2000 FORD EXCURSION LIMITED/V10. I AVERAGE ABOUT 12.8 MPG BUT I AM CONSTANTLY BLASTING DOWN I95 AT 80+ MPH. IF I KEEP IT ABOUT 65MPH I CAN GET OVER 15MPG.

Craig, you better keep an eye on your truck. they are just about the hottest vechile going for the theifs these days.Hunderds have been stolen in the detroit area recently. They got my 03 hemi (bottom of page 5 of this thread) 3 weeks ago. Thankfully they tore it up enough to total it. But now I an 3 day old 05 yellow RUMBLEBEE sitting in the drive now. pics to follow soon.

THANKS AGAIN, I picked up this 05 RUMBLE BEE to replace the red 03 hemi. I was going to buy a clunker and live with it. Even made a few offers, But I got such a sweet Deal on this one.It stickerd at 31+ they were letting them go for 19 even.

The lease on my '02 Silverado is almost up. My salesguy was telling me the best deals are on the Avs.

I have to figure out if I'm buying a new truck, or if I'm going to bite the bullet and buy out the current one.

If I get a new one I'll get a GMC. I can't stand the new grill and front end on the new Chev. It looks fine on the avs, but it just doesn't fit on the pickups.
