What did i get myself into?

Sooo... nothing great to report about tonight, still having issues with the fuel line getting sucked dry. :brickwall: going to suck the tank totally dry in the morning and find out what is causing the issue. also while idling around my temp pegged out and got hot. so i might throw an impeller for the out drive on my list of crap to do. but on the bright side, 1. it made it from launch and back afloat. 2, the hatch lifts worked great!!! going to stay positive at this point.

Well back seats done, New Docking lights installed, new radio is in and working like a charm! I'm running out of things to do now on phase one, Phase two this winter i plan on replacing all of the flooring since i found a few soft spots near the front seats.
I know the Stripes don't line up but i will fix that when i pull it all back apart. Going to take it out this weekend for hot boat weekend at holloway, Hope all goes well!IMG_20130808_111105_559.jpg

Well, ran out to holloway today, ran across the main part pretty good on plane. once i got to the no wake area it started to heat up on me again. we cleared the no wake area ans tried to get her up on plane and she died out like always, had issues getting it to restart. had my buddy with michigan hot boats tow me ashore and beach it. pulled the pick up tube and it was clogged, Ran into Problem Child on the lake, Great chatting with you and checking out your boat!!! the trip back home was even worse. Got down the no wake zone and she started to get hot. once we got it back out and on plane we could smell rubber burning, Popped the hatch and one of the exhaust tubes was melted through and spewing water and fumes into he hatch. Time to replace the impeller and rubbers. other than that i think i got the fuel issues ran down and taken care of!

It was great talking to you and your nice family Chad. Your Enforcer is looking great and good luck with it. You sure do have some buddies with some extremely radical boats that made our weekend. We had a great time. See you out there soon. Jeff

Felt a little out of place with all the jet drives and v-drives. But Very good group of guys to hang out with, Wild rides these guys have!

Well looks like i am done for the season. had issues with the boat overheating, figured it was the impeller, changed that out along with a new lower unit as i found my old one was about toast. the input shaft had a ton of slop in the bearing and the shift dogs were sloppy. upon a test in the driveway i still had an overheating issue so i pulled the thermostat thinking it was sticking shut, still overheating, so in a hail mary attempt i replaced the circulating pump on the block. and yet still overheating. only thing left is a blown head gasket dumping the water into the cylinder and burning it off. going to pull the motor this week and decide where i want to go from there. We (my boating buddy and myself) have a Baja Jet boat (454) that had fuel issues when we first got it, it would run fine up to 3k rpms but wouldn't go any faster. We literally checked everything on the motor fuel and electrical wise, finally decided to check the tank. When we pulled out the outlet tube, there was a screen filter in the bottom, and it was largely clogged up. We just removed it entirely and put in a second clear fuel filter on the fuel line so we could see if anything else was coming up from the tank. Never had another fuel problem after we did that.

jumbofordman, I got the fuel issue cleaned up, now i have an overheating issue going on that is going to drive me nuts, i get one thing fixed and another problem arises. guess the boating gods heard me when i said i like a challenge and puzzles. lol

So i put the boat back out in the workshop, I'm thinking about pulling the motor and tearing it down this winter. question is i have a 400 SBC that i can toss into it or do i rebuild the 260HP 350CI i have in it now? Any thoughts?

What drive do you have in it? Alphas are only good to 300 HP and even that is marginal.

I have an Alpha gen 1 on it now, I have heard mixed numbers for the HP ratings that they will hold, 300 - 400 Hp max But even with that when i tear into the flooring this winter i might even replace the transom and install a bravo drive into it. at this point it is all just ideas on paper right now and getting a feel for what i want to do for it vs. cost and time.

How much HP an Alpha will live with has a lot do to with how you apply the power (no full throttle holeshots). How long and hard you run it in rough water (unloading and instantly loading the prop I'd you catch air is hard on it), and also VERY important is how heavy the hull is/how wet it runs.

And here I thought I obsessed too much on being an owner of a Checkmate. This almost makes me want to give my boat to you to relieve this pain. Almost...

I wouldn't call it an obsession so much, BUt it does drive me nuts when something won't work the way it is supposed to. that and i always love a challenge. if somethign doesent work the way it is supposed to i tear into it and figure out what went wrong and fix it, at this point i plan on tearing out the floor and replacing it with new as i found it is rotted under the drivers seat. that and i want to see why the water isn't draining under the drivers side floor like it should. it's going to be a long winter!!!

And the saga continues..... Opened up the boat and looked down the access hole to find it full of water. the drivers seat was a little loose before i put it away so i got looking into it a little more and found a ton of floor rot. so i started a little open heart surgery on it today.

Motor is done, 365HP at 5300 rpm, with 370ft lbs of torque at 5250 rpm. dropping it in the week and dumping it in the water BEFORE i put the floor and foam in to check for any leaks in the hull. a good two or three hour soak while i drink some beers to ease the pain of the bill i got with the new motor and floor never hurts. lol
