WILD BOATING STORIES

HEY people tell us all about some of the wild/scary/fun/funny/ext. boating stories that have hapened to you.
Heres myne: one day about 6 years ago i was out in my 24 ft donzi with a my dad it was about 9 o clock and getting darker we were out in the bay and were jumping some perty big waves. out of nowear the boat went under water about 10 ft and then jumped out of the water about 8 ft. scared the living crap out of both of us. to this day we still think we were in a black hole.

After owning boats for 28 years I have had some intresting experiances.
I had the engine mounts on an outboard break and the engine was only held on by the cables.
I had a Predictor blow over at 70+, I hit a mud flat at 50 and had to wait 8 hours for the tide, I have had an engine fire in an I/O... fun stuff...

Storys where do I start. 1st one can found on page 2 of picture this. under mercs crash victim. others include all aboard being ejected. being intangled by the line of a anchor flying by. ect. ect. ect. lifes an adventure and i have the scar's to prove it.

WOW.. THOSE CHANEL MARKERS ARE TOUGH.. I HIT ONE ONCE UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS AT ABOUT 50. I GOT REAL LUCKY,IT WAS ONE OF THOSE ROUND FLOATING PLASTIC TYPE ABOUT 12" IN DIAMETER AND ABOUT 40" TALL. I GOT A HELL OF A SCARE. THE BOAT GOT A DENT IN THE RUB RAIL AND A SCRATCH DOWN THE SIDE

I WAS RUNNING A BRAND NEW 36' ACTIVE THUNDER/TWIN HP 500'S WITH THE COMPANY'S OWNER, PAT. HE WAS LATE FOR A BLACK TIE AFFAIR WITH HIS WIFE, WE HAD LESS THAN AN HOUR TO GET FROM PORT EVERGLADES NORTH TO HILLSBOROUGH INLET THROUGH OPEN OCEAN, 4-6'+ SEAS, NORTHEAST WIND BLOWING 20+MPH AND GETTING DARK. BY THE WAY, THE OWNER OF A/T HAS ONE LAZY EYE SO I DON'T BELIEVE HIS NIGHTTIME VISION IS ALL THAT CLEAR TO BEGIN WITH!!! RUNNING HARD AND CONSTANTLY LAUNCHING 9000 POUNDS OF BOAT OFF ONE WAVE TO THE NEXT WE FINALLY HIT AN INFAMOUS "BLACK HOLE"!!!! NOW, ALL MY YEARS BOATING I'VE JUMPED WAVES TO THE POINT OF ALMOST BEING VERTICLE, STUFFED A FEW BOWS AND GOT SWAMPED, SLID OUT AND HOOKED THROUGH SOME TIGHT TURNS, ETC. BUT NOTHING COMPARES TO HAVING THE OCEAN BOTTOM PULLED OUT FROM UNDER THE BOAT. SCARED THE HELL OUT OF US. OPENED THE CABIN DOORS AND OTHER THAN ALL THE BIRTH PILLOWS LAYING ON THE FLOOR, EVERYTHING WAS IN IT'S PLACE. ONE TOUGH %$@#*!$ BOAT!!!!

I've had some really funny stories, no really scary ones. The first one happened in my first boat. It was 10' GW invader and I put a 35 merc on it.The throttle got stuck open and I ran her into a huge swamp. Pissed myself laughing. Then I hit a huge wave, and cracked the hull right down the middle, almost in half. I had to pull the plug while opened out and then sit on the bow to keep it from sinking, this thing had no floatation in it. Just last week, my new delta sank right at the dock. We had to pull it out using a truck. Its gonna be awhile until I can laugh about that one

While cruising along in my old boat, 1987 larson senza b/r, with my brother and a friend of his sitting up in the bow, we were going pretty slow, bow up fairly high, I couldnt see around them, they didn't tell me there was a fishing boat so close. By the time they told me it was there I was about 40' from it, I turned real sharp, the guy in the fishing boat jumped out the back of his boat,

I missed him and his boat by just a couple feet, the guy was in the water cussin' and swearing , he was really pissed off!

He came by my deck on the lake a couple days later, saw my boat on the lift and flipped me off and started screaming at me again. I guess he didnt forgive and forget.

Tell you about a close call I had, or should I say a swimmer had... Just imagine cruising across open water 45-50 mph and a head suddenly pops up, they were swimming underwater. This person had swam out from a floating platform in the middle of the river with no PFD on. They were 300+ feet from the platform attempting to swim to the shore that was about 1/4 mile away. I swerved swinging the stern away from them. As they went past the boat I could have reached out and touched them. I went back and checked, they were not hurt, asked what they were doing and if I could take them to shore, they refused a ride. Later that day one of their friends came up to my boat and gave me hell.. They said I was going to fast and that a person should be able to swim to shore from the platform..

Yea !##!??!.. with a PFD at minimum and definatly not under water...

same story, out at nite i was running between the mainland and suger island aprx. 400 yards offshore.when out of the corner of my eye.20 ft. to my portside was 3 kids canoeing out to the island.11:30 on a dark nite without any lighting at all.i was 100 yds past before i realized what saw.i just hope i scared them as much as they scared me.

My family and I were down in FL on the Suwanee River. My dad was in a 22ft Century, I was in my old Arrowglas Spider a ways behind him and my brother in law and sis were behind me and my wife in his Nautique. There were some show offs on jet skis jumping our wakes and weaving in and out of our three boats. This one genius was like right behind my dads boat just off the stern screwing around. I sped up and was screaming at him to back off

My dad thought I was screaming at him and cut throttle. That guy almost ate the rear end out of that Century. I don't know how he missed it! We had big problems with folks on jet skis not respecting other boats for a long time there!

One 4th of july evening when I was about 19 we took the pontoon boat out for a cruse. Well we all got to parting and having a good time I shut the boat off and just drifted for a while in a wider part of the lake. After what seemed like 15 min someone looked out and yeleed where the hell are we. I looked up and said what the f...!! Fog had rolled in so thick that you couldn't see the front of the boat from the back. Now this is not a big lake that I live on I could navigate it with my eyes closed if I know where my starting point is but we had been drifting and I couldn't see a light or land mark to even head in the right direction. What we ended up doing was creeping forward till we got close to shore and try to determine which way go by what we could see we had to get about 12 feet away before you could even begin to make out where we were. And to make a long story longer We had acually been drifting for about 4 hours and were roughly 200 yards from my dock once we got our bearing straight. Till This day I have not seen a fog like that and Hope never to see it again! I have to say it was a little scary.

I have to start this story by mentioning that I was paralyzed in a snowmobile accident in March, so when I drive my boats I wear leg braces, and stand in my drop out bolsters.

In August I took my Uncle out on the boat. (My Uncle is a sailboat lover) We were playing around passing cruisers in 3-5' wakes, when my legs kicked out!!! As I dropped, I cut the throttle on the way down. My Fiance was standing behind me just in case, so I only went down to my arm pits, and I lifted myself back up. I got right back onto the throttle before I stuffed it. With that, my Uncle who had been sitting in the rear center seat, climbed out of the cabin covered in beer & knees bleeding from rug burn and said. "That never happened to me in a sailboat!" He hasn't been boating with us since.

sup i think i had a prity fun scary and wild story i can share i have a 1970 playmate thats 11ft (u can check it out on picture this under a couple of playmates) well me and my cusin like jumping waves so my cus rob was making waves with his sky boat becase ther is no one on our lake in the week. so he desides to start doing donuts. then me and my cus r jumping the waves and when i decided to go in a good lookign spot, three waves decided 2 make a wave about 5-7 feet tall so my hole boat was strait up in the air so i pulled the throttle way back. then klanded with no damage then started laughing with my frind that was with me and my cousin just barlky saw us land and all we can think about is goign home with only 2 boats insted of 3 and have my dad ask were the third boat is but it was funny and i guss u learn from your istakes being a teenager makes u do wild things and i guss it pays 2 have an old boat that was bult prity sturdy

While on a checkmate reggetta in Green Bay WI, in 2003, myself and some other board members were out for our last day od boating on that sunday before heading home.. We were all rafted up when a tornado came down out of the sky about 1/8th mile from us, which made us all think it was time to go. We were all about 10 miles from the fox river where the boat ramp was.( keep in mind I had just weeks before introduced my wife to Powerboating). Me and the other members were haulin azz on the way back , everyone of us running WOT.Green Bay had grown to about five foot white caps, we were about 1000yards from the mouth of the river when i hit an 8ft white cap that stood straight up and down. I had a good 5sec hang time, and landed the boat perfect in the water, as i was screaming (yee haw , giddy up, and other hick type words i use)i couldn't help but realize that my wife was GONE!!!As i kept looking back i found her upside down in the back seat of the boat, holding our camera, that she had let go of the grab rail to save from flyin out of the boat. The more i laughed the more she punched me...As Larry from the boat sales place pulled up next to us, he said"all i saw was Kathy do a 2 and 1/2 gainer into the back seat, but goddam that was a killer hang time.. Quite funny, wife wont let me jump cruiser wakes with me in the boat anymore, go figure......

lol chris i feel sorry for u atleast when i went vertikal in my wave i kept my passanger in my boat im not far from green bay and we almost had a simular happining were we are when i was in my boat but it never touched down

We also went to the Checkmate Regatta and almost lost our boat the day before disturbed almost flipped his. We were all leaving the boat ramp and going out to an island and drop anchors to sit and drink a few. We were about the fourth boat in the group, I was following Gslinger in his mate when he ran up on a large cruiser. At the last minute he shifted left (port to you sailors) to miss the wake from the cruiser. I didn't even know the cruiser was there until I saw his wake. My Checkmate flew high and rocked to the left and then flew high and rocked to the right. The Baja behind me said they thought we were flipped, my wife was in the back seat and flew all the way to the left arm rest and then flew right into the right arm rest. She thought her face was all busted-up but it was only bruised and her arm was sore for three days. The next day her face was all black and blue, I was afraid someone would think I had hit her or something.
The day disturbed and the others dodged the tornado, we headed South for clearer weather.
