    What to expect...? ELUDER

I'm running a 200 Merc EFI, 6" setback about 3" below the pad. Top end 72 mph at 5900 RPM with 25" Trophy. Runs 70 straight as a arrow with 3 people. Replaced old dual ride guide with Teleflex no feedback cables a couple years ago and they work very well up or down. Do you have any sharp bends...

    What to expect...? ELUDER

I agree with John. If you have the budget, go with a 10" hydraulic plate and steering. If the new /used motor is fresh, you will be in the mid/high seventies, with a 25" Trophy and should jump out of the hole.

    "Wanted" Mooring cover

Not sure where you live but there's a guy in Sharon, Ontario that does a nice job. Sunbrella or another type (can't remember the name of it) $1,100 give or take

    Prop size and pitch

24" Trophy with 10" setback would be a great start.

    2004 merc efi compression

110 - 115psi, some 120 and if the heads have been shaved 130 plus. Key factor is that all holes are within 10psi of each other. If you have one cylinder that's low, it's going to fail. Make sure the engine is warm and that your meter is accurate.

    1980 exciter

1986 Exciter with a 1999 200hp Merc 5 1/2" manual JP that runs 72. Boat used to have an older 1987 200 without a plate and it was really tough to keep it straight a WOT. I gained 6mph with a newer motor and raising it to 3.25" below the pad.

Is there a clearcoat n older Checkmates?

Refinished the deck in April and it looked great for 2 months. Today it looks as it did before all the effort. Milky and dull. I don't think there's anyway but to shoot a few coats of clear before all of the buffing.

    Need Trohy Plus Prop help.

You need to determine whether the prop is lugging or spinning on hole shot. Ideally you want the RPM to be around 3000 - 3500 rpm when you hit the gas until you crest over onto plane. If the prop isn't grabbing you need less air / exhaust. If the prop is lugging you will need the ring off and...

    Check out the front seats!

This makes all the Walmart shoppers that we've seen in emails over the years come to life as also boat owners.

88 Spectra 171 Jack Plate Info

Jackplate will likely help holeshot, chinewalk and top speed. You will be able to run the motor up and back thus lifting the boat out of the water. I just put one on my boat and makes a world of difference. Check your cables and motor mounts.

    Gelcoat has gone milky... again?

After wet sanding, compounding, polishing and waxing the finish after 6 weeks is going south. It looked really good when it was done but it looks to be showing it's roots. http://checkmate-boats.com/forums/images/icons/icon8.gif

Prop Advice = Stainless High Five? / 1st mate

Welcome to the forum. First thing is check your cables and make sure they are free turning both left and right. Second is more info on current setup... prop, jackplate. You should look at a Tempest Plus 23" maybe a 25" and get the motor up to 3" below the pad from the output shaft...

    86 Exciter Resto

Hey Ram, I'm updating the stereo in my Exciter and I'm wondering how you put your's in the center of the dash. My boat has a center support in the way. Did you modify the structure underneath the dash?
