It appears as though that is what they are setup for. I'm not interested in adding on the slide plate, so I will make a flat plate that gives me something solid to bolt to.

New plan on the paint... One of my customers is going to do it for me. He does very high end auto paint and auto restorations. He decided he needs some work done on his house, so he wants to trade services, which I'm good with. Based on that, he wanted to see the boat before I just showed up and dropped it off for him this week.

He took a look today, and now wants to do things a little different. He will be taping off all of the metal flake and repainting all of the blue on the top deck. Once the blue is painted, he will spray four coats of some super pricey clear over the entire top deck, metal flake included, and bake it:drool:

I will drop it off next week:bigthumb: Should be done just in time for the arrival of my engine:devil:

I have an 89 exciter with the same color combo's and metalflake as yours.
The navy blue on the deck of my boat is toast as well but the metalflake
portion still buffs up nice and doesn't fade like the blue does after a couple of weeks.
I was wondering if i could just paint the blue and leave the flake
and clear the whole thing. I love the flake on this boat and didn't want to
paint over it. Looks like it is possible. I will look into it. Thanks. BTW your
doing a great job. I also like the way the boat looks without the windshield
and rails. Something else to think about. Jon

The blue on my boat actually came out fairly well considering what it looked like. There were a couple areas that weren't "perfect" and had me rethinking what I wanted to do. When I had my painter come out, he just said this is what we're going to do to make it perfect. Sounded good to me:bigthumb:

I will be reinstalling the windshield, but now that all of the blue will be repainted, I'm thinking of doing away with the rail. What does everyone else think?

Thank you for the compliment Jon:cheers:

Look at your boat with them off prior to painting. I took mine off to give the boat a modern look. I think it's a judgement or personal perference call.

the rail comes in very handy at the dock/slip:sssh: just my 2 pennies;)

Since I'm still undecided and not totally against the look of the bow rail; I have question that will help me decide. How involved do I need to get to make the holes disappear forever? Grind down, glass, filler etc? If so, I will just put the rail back on. Not worth that extra time to me:shakehead: If I did remove it, I would need to add a couple cleats.

ram, boat is really lookin good! IMO you should keep the rails on. not only do they have classic beauty written all over them, but filling the holes the right way and matching the color would not be fun. and as ross stated they are great dockside handles plus you can hang fenders anywhere........the look alone is enough to sell me...... after all it's a checkmate not a b@h@ ;)

I'm not ready to get into grinding a glassing again to make the rail go away. The classic look is one thing I'm trying to maintain with this resto, so I guess the rail will stay. It looks very sleek without the rail and windshield, but I feel you start to lose the classic look as well as function. The classic look is the reason I'm keeping the metal flake when it gets painted!

New question... where should I mount the stereo? I was thinking the center of the dash, since it will be reachable for anyone in the boat, but I don't want to cut a hole in the dash. At the same time, I don't want to mount it somewhere that is difficult to get to or have it look like and after thought/bolt on.

On my Liner there is a compartment by your foot against the inside of the side of the hull, I put my stereo in there. Its kind of awkward to get at but I have a remote for it and the compartment has a door to keep potential thrives from knowing its there. Also, its protected from the weather and if I remove it you'll never know it was there:

That is by the passenger's left ankle and when the door is closed its hidden.

Still classy lines without the rail. Rails are nice to hang bumpers off. Personally, I love the look of no rails!

I was thinking of removing them on the red boat and using SS bolts to plug the holes left, despite people getting upset about me removing the rails!

I'm going to order a new boat cover. I don't need anything custom and super high dollar, but I don't want junk. I will leave the carport up this year, but I want to cover it as well. This fall I will start the addition on my home which includes an additional bay in the garage for the mate. Once the garage is built, I will continue to keep it covered to keep the dust off it.

What do you think of this cover? I would like to get it off Amazon since I have $150 gift card

Those are really good tarps for the money, my neighbor at the lake has one on his checkmate and its held up really good, there is also a boat down the street here with one and it looks good, I will be picking one up for my Dad's new boat forsure.

I got a semi-custom one for mine that fits great. It was a little more than that but it sheds water really well and came with a pole system. I keep mine in an instant garage too but keep it covered to keep it clean and keep animals from wandering in. If you can wait until tomorrow I'll get you the details on it.

Thanks, that would be great:bigthumb:

Did your boat come with a cockpit cover? I have one for the Enforcer then use a universal cover from wally world to keep the dust off. I like the one from Amazon.:thumb:
