My latest project. 13ft Paradise/Playmate copy

I haven't been painting for about 5 years, but judging by the hose line, are you using HVLP? During restorations do you just use automotive paints and clears with flex addative or is there specific marine paint that you use? What do you do for the belly of the boat?

Thanks for letting us follow along during the resto!

:bigthumb:

I use all automotive paints. Seems to give a better finish and lots more choices. I use both types of paint guns, but mostly the HVLP. I never use flex agents in a boat. The boat is'nt supposed to flex anyway. By "belly" you mean the underside mof the boat, I try to never paint the bottom due to scratching on the trailer and pulling on shore. If you scrape it down to the original color, it will look like crap.

I wetsanded the yellow today with 400 grit

Then I put the arch on. The graphics will go into the arch, so I have to put it on, then tape off the graphics, then take it off to paint

I taped off flames on one side, and scallops on the other to decide which way to go
100_1697.png
I decided on the scallops. Here the deck is all taped out. The wide center will be different shades of green marble, outlined with black and silver marble. Tommorrow, I'll tape off the sides and put the first color on.

I gotta sell something first. Nobody's buying anything!
You're telling me. This market is f*ed up huh? I was practically giving my boat away on ebay, But only got a hand full of deadbeats. Oh well. Keep up the fine job :thumb:

oh yeah, what kind of paint are you using again?

Got it all taped up today and started putting on the black. There will be several colors. This is just the first.

The scallops will be a black to green fade in candys, no marble. The center area and all the other stripes will be black, green, and silver marble. Here's the first step of the fade.

Here, I'm finishing up the fade with black tips

The first step is done. Tommorrow I'll spray more colors and the marble base.

The arch is taped up. Time for the colors.

Painted some of the basecoats today. This is not all the colors, and I still need to marble the colors.

If you're not a painter, you can't really picture what it's gonna look like when it's untaped.

I got it untaped today. I set the arch on to see how it looked. This afternoon I'll clear it. There's no clear in these pics. That's why it's hard to see the marble. I'll take more pics after I clear it.

Randy how long you gonna keep it for...or is it for sale?

Something tells me that you are the type that, everything is for sale!!!! I am that type as well.

I don't have to tell you this because you probably already know it, but NICE WORK!

Well, I sprayed the clear this afternoon. Came out awesome. I'm gonna wetsand and rubout tommorrow. Does'nt really seem to need it though. It's very slick!
