New England Get Together?

Sounds Great!
Keep me posted.
I live in Rumford which is not that far away.
If I know far enough in advance, I could probably get the time off.

It would be a great time to put together a video!!

Thanks!

I would love to go. TOOO far away from me. Plus my trailer will be stored for the summer at that time, cant get to it without alot of hassles. Living in New York has its dissadvantages, NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO STORE YOUR TOYS. :brickwall:

Hey Vinny,
How late in the Summer can you get to your trailer???
If not this year, maybe next year we could look at a Fall event.
The foliage would be a nice addition.

Vinny,
Thats too bad, would've been nice to meet up with you this summer. Might have been a nice change for you cruising a pristine lake instead of bouncing around in the Atlantic!!

Doesnt it get cold up there in the fall?? I know the lakes must be a sight to see, but man I hate cold weather.

Hey Bob,

I like bouncing around in the Atlantic!! I am sure I would like running around in a lake for a change. Just curious, how are the noise regulations up there. Dont tell me... you dont have to worry about them, right. When I was running full dry pipes, I used to get pulled over alot. Then I got smarter and put on a set of GGB Extremes. Now, its pretty reasonable. I have uploaded this video before, but here it is again. Cant hear the engine much over the wind noise. Plus my camera man was a bit nervous holding a camera while bouncing around. This is running along the south shore of Long Island, a place called Long Beach. This is the Atlantic on a very calm day. You can see the weather turned bad. Had to get back in asap.

C'mom Vin, it's not that cold in the fall! Actually, kidding aside, some of my best days on the lake have been late September/early October on the few days it ventures into the upper 70's. And yes, I do have to worry about the noise. I blew the motor I'm currently replacing on my way back from a mandated Marine Patrol decibel test on Winnipesaukee. (Passed though, 85 decibels or less, I was at 85!). It got so bad the last few years on my lake that I was just in my car with my kids last week and they were talking about the boat, wondering when it would be fixed. My 6 year old daughter says "Dad, how come you always have to talk to the other policemen when we're out in the boat?" Ya think I get stopped enough?. New Hampshire is a lot more aggressive with the noise law/testing. Maine seems to be a little more lenient/accomodating.

I wouldnt have a chance in hell of not getting busted for noise there. Here, it seems to be a bit more lax. As long as you keep it quiet in certain areas, which for me is impossible. I just avoid them at peak hours.

FYI
Average temperatures from Portland, Maine

The following data from site:
http://portlandme.about.com/library/blmainetemps.htm

Portland Maine Temperatures
Average Portland Maine Temperatures By Month

Maine's weather is temperamental at best. That's why we say in Maine "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute." We also say "there's two seasons in Maine: winter and 4th of July." But that's another story...

These average temperatures can give you some idea of what to expect in any given month, but it's always a good idea to be prepared for something totally different. In the summer, always bring a raincoat and a jacket or sweater, especially if you're going to be on a :) BOAT :) or on the coast.

The noise laws on Winni ARE getting worse but I have found as long as you are not killing it in certain areas they really don't bother you. I thought Sebago didn't have a noise restriction?? I have captains call so I can switch down even though it is Illegal in NH (what a stupid law)

There is a marina in Naples, Moose Landing
http://www.mooselandingmarina.com
which started selling Checkmates in 2004,2005 or 2006.
One of our members, SL , bought a new Check from them.
His site: http://www.adeveloper.com/boat

I thought we could contact the marina to see if they might want a group of Checkmate owners show up for a short gathering. Maybe we could meet there, meet the owners etc..

Has this been done at other dealers?

Just a thought......

Also, have not seen a post from SL lately.
I bet he would be interested in this New England Get Together

The Maine noise limits are 90 decibels stationary and 75 underway. The captains call is also illegal in Maine too! I found this out last season. The wardens can make you open your exhaust, test you, and then ticket you if you fail. They can also have you do a drive by test at a certain distance and speed so if you have mufflers like the North Stars which open up at a certain rpm they can get ya. I got lucky last year. My friend has a slip at Moose Landing Marina in Naples. Nice place. Most of the Checkmates I've seen there are outboards. The State Park beach on Sebago is also a great place to hang out.

ChrisG,

Which one is Moose Landing? Is that the one on the Brandy Pond side by the bridge? If it is I might have to comment on the girl who fueled my boat there last year!

It133, No that is Causeway Marina your talking about by the bridge. There has always been girls working those gas pumps since the early 90's. Some I believe are the owners' daughters. Moose Landing is on Brandy Pond but on the far left as you exit the no wake zone going into Brandy. He has expanded alot in the past few years.

it133,
I thought you said the marine patrol didn't bother you much on the lake ?
Sounds like the same as Winni to me! With less boats it could be worse because it is easier to single you out.

Dreamer,

Just to clarify, I've never been stopped on Sebago, probably one of the reasons I prefer to go there. I know Winni can be tough but I've never had a problem there either. I have a place on Ossipee Lake, between Winni and Sebago. Much smaller lake and my boat stands out there much more (mostly pontoon boats and smaller runabouts). I get stopped on Ossipee 5 or 6 times a year, I figured they'd know me by now but apparently not. For whatever reason, the Marine Patrol hits Ossipee hard during the summer. At one point last year they had four patrol boats monitoring the channel and sandbar (two at each end) and one unmarked patrol boat in the middle. Not like there is a big problem with boaters in this area, I just don't get it.

Ok,

Boat is starting to come together. Motor is going in this week, hydraulic steering is 90% installed and the wife has given me the blessing (after $28,000 in new windows and wood floors for the house!) In the midst of an April Noreaster the boat is coming together and I'm starting to get excited about the upcoming season. I know it's still a little early, but do we still have some interest in this Sebago get together? I know some need to know in advance, is the week of August 3-6 look like a go for everyone? If not, I'm flexible, any get together is a plus for me.

I am definatley in, as long as I can get the days off. Despite this stupid Nor Easter, I am pretty excited about the gathering, and I hope to have all my motor upgrades done by then.
