    NEW GUY FROM INDIANA

Welcome, there are a couple of us on Lake James in Northeast Indiana. Come on up some time and hang out on the sandbar! Congrats on the Enchanter, I too have been a long-time Checkmate fan and got my Ambassador this spring. :welcome:

    RPM Not High enough

I have an 89 Ambassador with 5.7 liter mercruiser and alpha one outdrive and EXACTLY the same problem. My top RPM is around 3500 in gear and running, not in gear it will go up to 5000rpm WOT. Top speed in gear and at 3500 is around 40. I am running a SS prop, but need to check the pitch...

    HELP WITH OUTDRIVE

A couple of quick things to check. When you hit the switch does the pump run? If so, is the trim pump reservoir full? If it is out of fluid nothing will move, you may have a leaking pump. If the pump is not running, check to make sure it is getting power.

    89 Ambassador before and after

Thanks for all the comments. I decided to put off the outdrive repainting for a year until I get a lift. Hopefully next year if I can get it on a lift I can get it painted and it will last!

    89 Ambassador before and after

Thanks to all who replied to my threads in the Overhaulin section. I bought this about a month ago, stripped all the vinyl striping off (what a job!) and put original decals on it, a bimini and a some polish and cleaning and here we are, before and after.

    Is this painted or applied?

Thanks guys! powerstroker: I did put stripes on it, they are kind of hard to see in these pics and now I wish I had gone bigger! Just above the rub rail is a 1/2" black stripe and just below a silver.

Launch Day! Thanks for all the kudos on my "barn". When I had it built it seemed like 30X40 would be big enough but I have about filled it up! Launched it and wanted everyone to see it. Thanks to all who have replied and PM'd and got me in the water!

    Is this painted or applied?

Done! Well it was all vinyl pinstriping and after many hours of scraping and pulling and hair dryer blowing all the tape is off! Next up is to aqua buff the whole thing, then apply the new decals from Mike at Checkmate and a couple of small pinstripes to match. Here are the stripped down pics.

    Repainting the outdrive

Thanks Blizz. I thought it was Zinc Chromate, it's actually Zinc Phosphate.

    Repainting the outdrive

I am starting that project next week. I have had the boat for about a week and have spent the entire time removing vinyl pinstriping that is 10 years old and stretches about 8 inches wide above and below the rub rail that goes all the way around the boat! Lots of hair dryer hours and pulling...

    Is this painted or applied?

Wanted to post an update on this thread. I talked to Mike at the Checkmate factory and he told me that purple was not available on the boats in 1989. He said it wasn't available until the 90's. A search through the old brochures on this site shows purple available in 1993. Now, do I sand...

    Painted vs. Gel Coat

I'm probably going to roll and tip the stripe. Do you think I need a repirator for rolling?

1987 21' Checkmate Starflite for Sale

I noticed in the brochures on the site from the 80's that "deluxe" interiors were tri-color and standard were two color. I have an 89 Ambassador with white and grey seats and the brochure Ambassador has white black and red. Possibly deluxe vs. standard.

    New to the family!

Lake James is a bit on the small side (about 1000 acres) but it hooks up via channels to 3 other lakes giving plenty of places to cruise. The sand bar is a good time, there's another Checkie here on the board that is there some. Give me a PM if you're ever down and we'll do a cool one :cheers
